THE LOWDOWN

MAN UTD

Manchester United have not been good really at any stage this season and the fact that the Red Devils remain in contention for a top four or five spot and potential UEFA Champions League could be seen as a damning indictment on the quality of the Premier League this season. They continued their underwhelming campaign with a 3-1 defeat against Manchester City in the derby, last weekend.

In that match, a wonder goal from Marcus Rashford gave United the lead in that game before Phil Foden scored a second-half brace and Erling Haaland clinched all three points for their rivals. United managed an expected goals rate of 0.00 in that second-half and Erik ten Hag is under mounting pressure at Old Trafford.

EVERTON

Last week, Everton were awarded four points back to their tally after appealing their ten-point deduction from November. That helped the Toffees move five points away from the bottom three and the relegation places but they remain in danger with Luton Town having a game in hand, another potential points penalty and the crucial fact that they are in awful form.

That awful form continued at Goodison Park last weekend as they were beaten 3-1 by West Ham United in desperately frustrating circumstances. Beto opened the scoring early in the second-half after missing a penalty earlier in the match but Kurt Zouma soon equalised before Tomas Soucek and Edson Alvarez scored in second-half stoppage-time for the Irons.

THE TEAM NEWS

MAN UTD

Erik ten Hag is dealing with several injury issues for this weekend but the former Ajax boss will have both Jonny Evans and Marcus Rashford available after the pair overcame knocks they endured in the derby last weekend.

Omari Forson has joined the injury list, which includes the likes of Harry Maguire, Tyrell Malacia, Luke Shaw, Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Mason Mount and February's Premier League Player of the Month, Rasmus Hojlund.

PREDICTED XI (4-2-3-1): Onana; Dalot, Varane, Evans, Lindelof; Casemiro, Mainoo; Garnacho, McTominay, Fernandes; Rashford

UNAVAILABLE: Maguire (Injured), Martinez (Injured), Wan-Bissaka (Injured), Shaw (Injured), Malacia (Injured), Mount (Injured), Forson (Injured), Hojlund (Injured), Martial (Injured)

QUESTIONABLE:

EVERTON

Sean Dyche has confirmed that Everton remain without Netherlands international Arnaut Danjuma due to an ankle injury, whilst Dele Alli is still unavailable for the Toffees due to a groin issue.

The former Burnley boss may also be without midfielder Idrissa Gueye, with Dyche describing the Senegalese international as 'unlikely' to feature but suggesting there remains a 'chance'.

PREDICTED XI (4-4-1-1): Pickford; Godfrey, Tarkowski, Branthwaite, Mykolenko; Harrison, Onana, Garner, McNeil; Doucoure; Beto

UNAVAILABLE: Alli (Injured), Danjuma (Injured)

QUESTIONABLE: Gueye (Injured)

THE PREDICTION

Crystal Palace in the EFL Cup, Everton in the Premier League, Wigan Athletic in the FA Cup, Newport County in the FA Cup and West Ham United in the Premier League. In 38 matches across all competitions so far this season, those are the only games that Manchester United have managed to win by more than a solitary goal. Sean Dyche, ever the pragmatist and reactive coach, needs to get a serious tune out of his side this weekend with their loss against West Ham meaning they have won just one of their last 14 matches across all competitions. United will try and break down what will be a deep low block and this may not necessarily be a thriller for the neutral.
