THE LOWDOWN
MAN UTD
- Man Utd had goalkeeper David de Gea to thank for winning them three points against West Ham last time out, saving a last minute penalty to help secure his team a 1-2 victory after Jesse Lingard’s goal late in normal time put them ahead.
- After only just re-joining training with the first-team, striker Edinson Cavani may not be ready for a start but the Uruguayan could well be a part of the squad at Old Trafford, meaning just Marcus Rashford and Amad Diallo are sidelined.
ASTON VILLA
- Aston Villa continued their strong home form since the start of the season last weekend by beating Everton 3-0, following a ten-minute second half blitz that saw them score three goals within that time period.
- Winger Leon Bailey was one of the goalscorers for Dean Smith’s side, but he is out here with a thigh injury and Tuanzebe sits this one out against his parent club, whilst midfielder John McGinn is available following concussion.

THE PREDICTION
Despite their second-string side being knocked out of the League Cup in midweek, Man Utd head into this match full of confidence having won their last three Premier League games, with their two top flight fixtures played at Old Trafford so far having seen them rack up nine goals. The presence of Cristiano Ronaldo, who has scored four goals across his three appearances so far for the Red Devils this season has turned them into arguably the most feared attack in the country and Aston Villa have their work cut out for them. Expected to line up with a back five, Dean Smith’s men will not prove easy to break down as they look to maintain a strong shape and utilise the pace of players such as Ollie Watkins on the counter attack. However, the offensive quality of the hosts will likely wind up too difficult for the Aston Villa to keep out and whilst it shouldn’t be a walkover, an eventual victory for Man Utd has to be favoured in this one.
