THE LOWDOWN

MAN CITY

The reigning champions were made to work hard for their victory last weekend, with Sheffield Utd putting up stern resistance, but Pep Guardiola's men came through the test and currently boast three wins from three in the Premier League.

With Erling Haaland having missed a first-half penalty to give City the lead, it was starting to feel like one of those days, but the prolific Norwegian striker made amends in the second half by putting away Jack Grealish's cross. Then, with just five minutes of normal time remaining, Jayden Bogle equalised for the Blades. However, as they so often do, City found a way to nick it with Rodri providing the winner to preserve the Cityzens' 100% record in the league.

FULHAM

After falling to a hugely disappointing 0-3 defeat at home to Brentford, Fulham responded well by holding Arsenal to a 2-2 draw at the Emirates last weekend, and they followed that up by beating Tottenham on penalties in the League Cup on Tuesday.

It took just 57 seconds for Fulham to open the score against Arsenal, with Andreas Pereira notching his first of the campaign, but the Gunners rallied midway through the second half with two goals in quick succession from Bukayo Saka and Eddie Nketiah. Despite Calvin Bassey's dismissal though, the Cottagers were not to be outdone, and Joao Palhinha rescued a point late on.

THE TEAM NEWS

MAN CITY

Phil Foden has completely recovered from illness and could find himself in the starting line-up here, while Manuel Akanji is also likely to be available after getting over his own illness. John Stones has made good progress in his recovery and may feature, but some doubt surrounds whether new signing Mathais Nunes will be eligible to make his debut.

PREDICTED XI (4-2-3-1): Ederson; Walker, Dias, Ake, Gvardiol; Rodri, Kovacic; Foden, Alvarez, Grealish; Haaland

UNAVAILABLE: De Bruyne (Injured)

QUESTIONABLE: Stones (Injured), Akanji (Illness), Nunes (Ineligible)

FULHAM

Centre-back pair Tim Ream and Calvin Bassey are both available following suspensions, so Marco Silva has a decision to make as to who partners Issa Diop. In midfield, Joao Palhinha is involved in transfer speculation linking him with a move away from the club, but could still feature, while Willian is on the mend and could come into Silva's thinking.

Sasa Lukic will miss out after picking up an injury.

PREDICTED XI (4-3-3): Leno; Tete, Diop, Ream, Robinson; Reed, Palhinha, Pereira; Wilson, Jimenez, De Cordova-Reid

UNAVAILABLE: Ream (Suspended), Lukic (Injured)

QUESTIONABLE: Cairney (Injured), Willian (Injured)

THE PREDICTION

It's an ominous sign that Man City aren't really at their best right now, yet they have still managed to win all three games to make a perfect start to the defence of their Premier League title. Fulham have shown some promise in patches but this could be the first time City really hit their stride. In front of an expectant Etihad crowd, consider backing the hosts to win by at least two clear goals.

TIP: MAN CITY TO WIN WITH -1.5 HANDICAP
