LIVERPOOL
- Liverpool were at their destructive best last weekend, dominating Arsenal and putting the Gunners to the sword by four goals to nil, before backing that result up with a 2-0 victory against Porto in Champions League, maintaining their 100% record in the group stage.
- After the likes of Trent Alexander-Arnold and Virgil van Dijk were afforded a rest in midweek, both should come back into the starting XI here, whilst Roberto Firmino, Joe Gomez, Curtis Jones and Harvey Elliott will all miss out through injury, although midfielder Naby Keita could return to the squad.
SOUTHAMPTON
- Defeat away at Norwich brought to an end Southampton’s run of successive victories, with head coach Ralph Hasenhuttl frustrated at his side’s inability to create enough clear-cut opportunities in front of goal.
- Midfielder Stuart Armstrong will miss out but in better news Jack Stephens is back in training after his calf injury and is very close to a return.

THE PREDICTION
Southampton don’t have happy memories of Anfield in recent seasons, having lost their last four Premier League games at the home of Liverpool, not scoring in any of those fixtures. Should Jurgen Klopp’s men replicate the performance they put in against Arsenal last weekend, then it could prove a long afternoon for the Saints. One player who shone in particular was Sadio Mane, who got on the scoresheet for the seventh time in the Premier League so far this season, with five of those goals coming at Anfield. Mane has netted in all five of Liverpool’s home Premier League matches in 2021-22 and he is expected to do so once again in this one.
