THE TEAM NEWS
LIVERPOOL
Jurgen Klopp suggested that Argentinian international midfielder Alexis Mac Allister ‘should be fine’ to face Chelsea on Wednesday evening. Thiago Alcantara also trained with the first-team squad this week ‘but he needs time’.
The Reds are without the likes of Mohamed Salah, Stefan Bajcetic and Kostas Tsimikas throughout the next month or so, whilst Joel Matip is a long-term absentee and will miss the rest of this season. Wataru Endo remains away on international duty with Japan.
PREDICTED XI (4-3-3): Alisson; Alexander-Arnold, Konate, Van Dijk, Robertson; Szoboszlai, Mac Allister, Jones; Luis Diaz, Darwin Nunez, Gakpo
UNAVAILABLE: Endo (International duty), Tsimikas (Injured), Salah (Injured), Bajcetic (Injured), Matip (Injured), Thiago (Injured)
QUESTIONABLE:
CHELSEA
Mauricio Pochettino has confirmed that Levi Colwill will be missing from Chelsea’s trip to Anfield as the young English defender has suffered a minor injury. There is a chance that Nicolas Jackson could be involved if he arrived back in time after Senegal’s elimination from the Africa Cup of Nations.
They have also been boosted as both Malo Gusto and Christopher Nkunku will return to the squad after recent injuries. The Blues do remain without the likes of Robert Sanchez, Lesley Ugochukwu and Trevoh Chalobah.
PREDICTED XI (4-2-3-1): Petrovic; Disasi, Silva, Badiashile, Chilwell; Caicedo, Fernandez; Madueke, Gallagher, Sterling; Palmer
UNAVAILABLE: Colwill (Injured), Fofana (Injured), James (Injured), Cucurella (Injured), Lavia (Injured), Sanchez (Injured), Chalobah (Injured), Ugochukwu (Injured)
QUESTIONABLE: Jackson (International duty)
THE PREDICTION
Games involving Jurgen Klopp and Mauricio Pochettino should perhaps be a little more entertaining than they have been in the past given the respective styles of play but the games have occasionally been guilty of cancelling each other out. These two sides have drawn their last six matches between each other, albeit Liverpool have won two of those via a penalty shootout. The Reds, in their first Premier League game since Jurgen Klopp announced his departure at the end of the season, will come out of the blocks but Chelsea have begun to look a little more fluent in attack so a home win in which both teams score seems a good value bet.
TIP: LIVERPOOL TO WIN & BOTH TEAMS TO SCORE
