THE LOWDOWN
LIVERPOOL
- Liverpool’s last-gasp victory away at Wolves saw them jump to second-place in the Premier League last Saturday after Chelsea’s defeat at the hands of West Ham earlier in the day, meaning that the Reds are now just a point from top spot.
- Curtis Jones and Harvey Elliott all remain out for Liverpool and it is likely too soon for Roberto Firmino while Diogo Jota has picked up a knock so Divock Origi could well be handed a rare start in the Premier League.
ASTON VILLA
- Steven Gerrard returns to Anfield as manager of Aston Villa and having made an excellent start to his Villa career, winning three of his first four matches in charge, including most recently against Leicester.
- Wingers Bertrand Traore and Leon Bailey both miss out once again through injury whilst Matt Targett is doubtful, however striker Danny Ings could return from a thigh injury to play some part against his former club.

THE PREDICTION
Not only do Liverpool have the ability to steamroll past teams, they also fight to the very end when things are not going their way as they did at Wolves. Gerrard and Aston Villa have their work cut out for them here against Jurgen Klopp’s relentless red machine, who have racked up four goals in each of their last two league matches at Anfield and have netted at least twice in all but one of their seven home Premier League games so far this season. Considering the potency of Liverpool’s attack led by the Salah, Jota, Mane trio who have been unstoppable in recent weeks, the home side are expected to have too much offensive firepower for Villa to cope with, ultimately leading Liverpool to another home important victory.
