TOTTENHAM PREVIEW: THE COLLAPSE BY THE SEASIDE
Ange Postecoglou has discussed how annoyed he was, and has remained, after Tottenham Hotspur suffered a 3-2 defeat to Brighton and Hove Albion at the AMEX Stadium a couple of weeks ago when they had led by two goals to nil at half-time with a genuinely excellent first-half performance.
Prior to that defeat, in which they were on the verge of heading into the break in a really good mood, Spurs had enjoyed five successive victories across all competitions, including a standout 3-0 hammering of Manchester United at Old Trafford with several individuals entering into some excellent form, most notably Brennan Johnson.
WEST HAM PREVIEW: FINDING SOME RHYTHM
Julen Lopetegui was given a squad that had been boosted by over £120 million worth of investment over the summer but the Irons had badly struggled at the start of this season with just one victory in their opening six matches as they failed to find any fluency or rhythm in their play.
The Hammers did earn their second win of the Premier League campaign just before the international break, though, as they put winless Ipswich Town to the sword with a 4-1 victory at the London Stadium in which all of their front four, Michail Antonio, Mohammed Kudus, Jarrod Bowen and Lucas Paqueta, scored.
TOTTENHAM TEAM NEWS: SON & RICHARLISON SHOULD RETURN
It has been confirmed that both Son Heung-min and Richarlison have returned to training over the October international break and the attacking duo will be expected to be available this weekend.
Summer signing Lucas Bergvall is reported to have a ‘slight niggle’ but should be ‘ok’ for this one, whilst another summer signing, Wilson Odobert, is due to return to training next week.
PREDICTED XI (4-3-3): Vicario; Porro, Romero, Van de Ven, Udogie; Kulusevski, Bentancur, Maddison; Johnson, Solanke, Son
UNAVAILABLE: Odobert (Injured)
QUESTIONABLE: Bergvall (Injured), Son (Fitness), Richarlison (Fitness)
WEST HAM TEAM NEWS: Coming soon
Mexico international Edson Alvarez, of whom Lopetegui has discussed the need for him to improve his temperament, is a doubt for this weekend as he won't return to training after the international break until the day before the game.
Lopetegui has refused to put a timescale on Germany international Niclas Fullkrug returning from his injury with the former Borussia Dortmund missing the Hammers' last few games before the break.
PREDICTED XI (4-1-4-1): Areola; Wan-Bissaka, Todibo, Kilman, Emerson; Rodriguez; Bowen, Soucek, Paqueta, Kudus; Antonio
UNAVAILABLE: Fullkrug (Injured)
QUESTIONABLE: Alvarez (Fitness)
TOTTENHAM VS WEST HAM PREDICTION
Trusting Tottenham Hotspur is not something anybody should really do. Spurs did find some fluency before their second-half showing down on the south coast but there will now be a bit of pressure on them and Postecoglou to immediately rediscover that. West Ham have a side that should be perfectly build to counter-attack against a side like Spurs. A win either way seems tough to call but both teams scoring would appear a good bet for this one.
