THE LOWDOWN
FULHAM
After holding Arsenal to draw and knocking Tottenham out of the League Cup, Fulham were given a reality check when they were defeated 5-1 by reigning Premier League champions Man City before the international break.
In some ways, that loss didn't tell the full story though, as the Cottagers almost went into the break level after Tim Ream had equalised following Julian Alvarez' opener. However, Nathan Ake's controversial goal just before the half-time whistle changed the complexion of the game. The second half was an altogether different affair, with an Erling Haaland hat-trick taking the game beyond Marco Silva's men.
LUTON
Luton are still searching for their first points of the campaign with the promoted club having suffered three consecutive league defeats to kick off the campaign.
To be fair to the Hatters, they competed well against West Ham in their first home league game last time out. In-form Jarrod Bowen opened the scoring in the first half for the Hammers, and it wasn't until the 85th minute that they doubled their lead courtesy of Kurt Zouma. Mads Anderson pulled one back for the hosts in injury-time, but it was too little, too late.
THE TEAM NEWS
FULHAM
Tosin Adarabioyo faces a month or two on the sidelines, while a late assessment will be made on Tom Cairney after the midfielder received a knock against Man City.
Joao Palhinha missed out against City due to the transfer speculation surrounding him, but after having signed a new deal at the club, he seems sure to come back into Marco Silva's thinking. Recent signing Alex Iwobi is also fit and available.
PREDICTED XI (4-2-3-1): Leno; Tete, Diop, Ream, Robinson; Reed, Palhinha; Wilson, Pereira, De Cordova-Reid; Jimenez
UNAVAILABLE: Adarabioyo (Injured), Lukic (Injured)
QUESTIONABLE: Cairney (Injured)
LUTON
Tom Lockyer missed out through injury last time out but has trained and the Hatters skipper is likely to come back into central defence for this one, although Mads Andersen has a case to remain in the side after scoring against West Ham.
The trio of Gabriel Osho, Dan Potts and Jordan Clark are not yet ready to return to action, while Pelly Mpanzu is feeling some tiredness after his return from international duty with DR Congo.
PREDICTED XI (5-3-2): Kaminski; Doughty, Burke, Lockyer, Bell, GIles; Chong, Nakamba, Barkley; Adebayo, Morris
UNAVAILABLE: Osho (Injured), Potts (Injured), Clark (Injured)
QUESTIONABLE: Lockyer (Injured), Mpanzu (Fatigue)
THE PREDICTION
If Luton are to have any chance of survival in this division, then they need to be picking up points against the likes of Fulham. The Cottagers will have other ideas though, and they clearly have the edge over Luton in all departments. The hosts haven't kept a clean sheet since the opening weekend of the season though, so don't be surprised to see both teams find the net here, regardless of the result.
