THE LOWDOWN
EVERTON
Sean Dyche’s Everton do still have the threat of a potential administration hanging over them and an automatic nine-point deduction, which would drag them straight back down into the relegation battle. So, despite their impressive form in the last couple of weeks, they really do need to stay motivated and ‘on it’.
The Toffees shared a 1-1 draw with Luton Town at Kenilworth Road last weekend with Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s opener being cancelled out by Elijah Adebayo. Everton have had a major improvement in the spring with four victories, three draws and just one loss in their last eight matches.
SHEFFIELD UTD
It has been a genuinely miserable campaign for Sheffield United as they head into the final two games of the 2023/24 Premier League season sitting rock-bottom and having already been relegated for a couple of weeks. The Blades extended their record for the most goals conceded in a 20-team Premier League season, too, last weekend.
Their 3-1 loss at home to relegation-threatened Nottingham Forest last weekend, in which Callum Hudson-Odoi notched a brace and Ryan Yates also scored, means they have now conceded exactly 100 goals in their 36 games so far this season – that is, quite incredibly, 22 more than anyone else in the league.
THE TEAM NEWS
EVERTON
Sean Dyche has confirmed that he expects to have the same squad available to face Sheffield United this weekend that was at his disposal as they faced Luton Town last weekend.
There are no fresh injury concerns for the Toffees but they do remain without defensive duo Vitaly Mykolenko and Nathan Patterson as well as Dele Alli.
PREDICTED XI (4-4-1-1): Pickford; Godfrey, Tarkowski, Branthwaite, Young; Harrison, Gueye, Garner, McNeil; Doucoure; Calvert-Lewin
UNAVAILABLE: Mykolenko (Injured), Patterson (Injured), Alli (Injured)
QUESTIONABLE:
SHEFFIELD UTD
Chris Wilder will have another defender unavailable for this weekend's trip across to Merseyside as Mason Holgate is ineligible to face his parent club having joined on loan in January.
Anel Ahmedhodzic is also missing through suspension, whilst other defenders such as John Egan, Chris Basham and George Baldock are all still out injured for this weekend.
PREDICTED XI (4-3-3): Grbic; Bogle, Trusty, Robinson, Larouci; Hamer, Vinicius Souza, Brooks; Brereton, Archer, Osborn
UNAVAILABLE: Egan (Injured), Basham (Injured), Ahmedhodzic (Suspended), Holgate (Ineligible), Baldock (Injured), Lowe (Injured), Norrington-Davies (Injured), Davies (Injured), McBurnie (Injured), Jebbison (Illness)
QUESTIONABLE:
THE PREDICTION
As mentioned, there are some off-field issues for Everton to deal with as their potential takeover by 777 Partners looks set to collapse or at least hit major difficulties. Sheffield United at home is exactly who you want to be facing when another win really does make sure of Premier League survival – especially when you have enjoyed home wins against Burnley, Liverpool, Nottingham Forest and Brentford in the last month or so. Everton are firm favourites for this one.
TIP: EVERTON TO WIN
