EVERTON PREVIEW: TOFFEES NO LONGER STUCK
Sean Dyche remains under pressure and is still on the receiving end of some relatively heavy criticism at the moment with the Toffees having started their season with just four points in their opening six matches but a victory last weekend as well as the potential takeover of the club in the near future means there is a more positive mood on the blue side of Merseyside.
They come into this one on the back of a 2-1 victory against Crystal Palace last weekend at Goodison Park. Marc Guehi gave Palace an early lead after ten minutes and the Eagles did lead at half-time but a Dwight McNeil early on in the second-half turned the game on its head to send Goodison wild.
NEWCASTLE PREVIEW: TWO FACES OF THE MAGPIES
Eddie Howe does appear a little unsettled by the ongoings in the hierarchy at Newcastle United and performances from the Magpies so far this season have been generally underwhelming throughout but to start the campaign with 11 points from their opening six matches is more than respectable.
They responded to a 3-1 defeat to Fulham at Craven Cottage a couple of weeks ago to share a 1-1 draw with defending champions Manchester City at St James’ Park last weekend. Anthony Gordon scored a 58th minute penalty to equalise in that game before they then edged past AFC Wimbledon in the EFL Cup in midweek.
EVERTON TEAM NEWS: KEY ABSENTEES
Club captain Seamus Coleman has been unavailable for some time now and the Ireland international remains sidelined for the home team ahead of this weekend.
As well as Coleman, both Youssef Chermiti and Armando Broja remain sidelined but Nathan Patterson is regaining match fitness having played twice for the U21’s recently.
PREDICTED XI (4-2-3-1): Pickford; Young, Tarkowski, Branthwaite, Mykolenko; Doucoure, Mangala; Lindstrom, McNeil, Ndiaye; Calvert-Lewin
UNAVAILABLE: Coleman (Injured), Chermiti (Injured), Broja (Injured)
QUESTIONABLE: Patterson (Fitness)
NEWCASTLE TEAM NEWS: LIKELY NO ISAK OR WILSON
Eddie Howe has said that he 'hopes' England international defender Kieran Trippier will be fit to play for this weekend but there are quite a few players that are less likely to play, even though Fabian Schar and Nick Pope 'should' be fine.
The Magpies will likely be without key attackers Alexander Isak and Callum Wilson with the pair targeting a return to the side after the October international break.
PREDICTED XI (4-3-3): Pope; Trippier, Schar, Burn, Livramento; Tonali, Bruno Guimaraes, Joelinton; Murphy, Gordon, Barnes
UNAVAILABLE: Botman (Injured), Lascelles (Injured), Targett (Injured), Miley (Injured), Isak (Injured), Wilson (Injured)
QUESTIONABLE: Dubravka (Injured), Pope (Injured), Schar (Injured), Trippier (Injured)
EVERTON VS NEWCASTLE PREDICTION
Naturally, with the style of football implemented by Sean Dyche hamstrung by a limited and shallow squad, Everton play quite a reactive and defensive, low-scoring style of football. They take on a Newcastle United side that have lacked a bit of fluency throughout the campaign, despite their ability to pick up points. As a result, a low-scoring affair would appear quite likely for this one at Goodison.
EVERTON VS NEWCASTLE TIP: UNDER 2.5 GOALS
