THE LOWDOWN

EVERTON

  • A 2-2 draw away to Nottingham Forest last time out was not enough to take Everton out of the bottom three, the Toffees having been pegged back twice by Steve Cooper’s side leading to Sean Dyche’s first draw as Everton boss.
  • Andros Townsend remains out with a knee problem, whilst Dominic Calvert-Lewin, Nathan Patterson and Vitalii Mykolenko all face late fitness tests.

BRENTFORD

  • Brentford came out the right end of a thrilling West London derby this past Monday night, beating Fulham 3-2 to move within just one point of their local rivals and level on points with eighth-placed Brighton.
  • The Bees remain without attacking midfielder Keane Lewis-Potter and goalkeeper Thomas Strakosha through knee and ankle injuries respectively.

THE PREDICTION

If Everton are to remain in the Premier League, they need to win their remaining home fixtures, including this one. As good a side as Brentford are, unbeaten in the top flight since the World Cup break, they won’t be used to playing in a Goodison Park bear pit, which has already shown its influence once under Sean Dyche, the Toffees beating league leaders Arsenal at home last month. If the hosts can maintain the high-performance levels defensively that they would expect under Dyche and take one of the limited chances they are likely to get at the other end of the pitch, then Everton could just do enough to edge past the Bees. Consider utilising the draw no bet market here to back an Everton victory.
