CRYSTAL PALACE PREVIEW: GLASNER’S NICE GUYS

Eberechi Eze had an excellent and innovative free-kick ruled out for a foul mid-way through the first-half at the Gtech Community Stadium. The foul was non-existent and would have been overturned if referee Sam Barrott hadn’t blown too early but Eze announced Palace had accepted a post-match apology with manager Oliver Glasner describing the referee as a ‘great man’ for owning his error.

In actual play, one of the best teams from the second-half of last season Crystal Palace suffered a frustrating opening day loss. Bryan Mbeumo and Yoane Wissa scored either side of an Ethan Pinnock own goal to condemn the Eagles in west London.

WEST HAM PREVIEW: IRONING OUT ISSUES

The opening half an hour of West Ham United’s opening game against Aston Villa last weekend would have been quite worrying for Hammers supporters and new manager Julen Lopetegui. Villa were 1-0 up early and really should have been further ahead but a controversial penalty before half-time was then scored by Lucas Paqueta to give them a lifeline.

They started better in the second-half with an excellent performance from Mohammed Kudus but the game was then won by Villa substitute Jhon Duran, who has been the subject of interest from West Ham throughout the summer. Julen Lopetegui will need to find a way to get his new signings to gel quite quickly as they travel south to Selhurst Park.

CRYSTAL PALACE TEAM NEWS: ISSUES IN THE WINDOW

Cheick Doucoure returned from injury last weekend on the opening day of the season to come off the bench for the now ill Will Hughes, who is sidelined for the Eagles alongside Brazilian attacker Matheus Franca.

Oliver Glasner will also have to cope without Joachim Andersen and Jordan Ayew for this weekend as they finalise moves to Fulham and Leicester City respectively.

PREDICTED XI (3-4-2-1): Henderson; Richards, Riad, Guehi; Daniel Munoz, Wharton, Doucoure, Mitchell; Kamada, Eze; Mateta

UNAVAILABLE: Matheus Franca (Injured)

QUESTIONABLE: Hughes (Illness)

WEST HAM TEAM NEWS: COMING SOON

Julen Lopetegui was coy in his pre-match press conference when asked about injuries with the Spaniard saying 'wait and see' with regards to any potential absentees. Edson Alvarez was the only man missing on the opening day of the season.

The Hammers may well be keen to bring in their new signings Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Jean-Clair Todibo and Niclas Fullkrug into the eleven after all three started on the bench last weekend with the latter two coming on in the second-half.

PREDICTED XI (4-2-3-1): Areola; Wan-Bissaka, Todibo, Kilman, Emerson; Rodriguez, Soucek; Bowen, Lucas Paqueta, Kudus; Fullkrug

UNAVAILABLE:

QUESTIONABLE: Edson Alvarez (Injured)

CRYSTAL PALACE VS WEST HAM PREDICTION

Crystal Palace managed to propel themselves into the top-half last season following the appointment of Oliver Glasner in late-February. Despite speculation ongoing as to who they will have left at the end of the window, they have so far only lost Michael Olise from their big name players. West Ham showed some teething issues in their opener but also a fair bit of attacking flair and quite a lot of depth off the bench, too. Both teams scoring seems like a good shout here.
