THE LOWDOWN

CRYSTAL PALACE

In late-February, Crystal Palace parted company with Roy Hodgson and replaced him with Oliver Glasner as they began to really look over their shoulder at the relegation zone. Glasner’s reign started with an emphatic 3-0 hammering of Burnley but then underwent some fairly serious teething issues in the early spring.

However, the Eagles now come into this weekend on the back of some much-improved form that leaves them as one of the form teams in the Premier League. Three successive victories, which began with a win at Anfield against Liverpool before home defeats of West Ham United and Newcastle United was then followed by a 1-1 draw with Fulham last weekend.

MAN UTD

It has become pretty repetitive to preview Manchester United games because they are not a good team nor a cohesive unit, both in defence or attack, and yet they have consistently found a way of collecting points to leave themselves tucked inside the top seven and the European spots ahead of the weekend and looking forward to an FA Cup final.

Erik ten Hag’s Red Devils come into this one on the back of another poor performance in which they avoided defeat. They shared a 1-1 draw at home to relegation-threatened Burnley with Antony’s late opener then being cancelled out by Zeki Amdouni for the Clarets. There is a danger United drift out of the European spots.

THE TEAM NEWS

CRYSTAL PALACE

Oliver Glasner has been able to reveal that England internationals Marc Guehi and Eberechi Eze have now fully returned from their respective injuries and will be in the squad for this weekend.

The Eagles remain without key men such as Sam Johnstone and Cheick Doucoure, though, as well as the likes of Rob Holding, Jefferson Lerma and Matheus Franca.

PREDICTED XI (3-4-2-1): Henderson; Clyne, Andersen, Richards; Munoz, Wharton, Hughes, Mitchell; Olise, Eze; Mateta

UNAVAILABLE: Johnstone (Injured), Holding (Injured), Lerma (Injured), Doucoure (Injured), Franca (Injured)

QUESTIONABLE:

MAN UTD

Manchester United have been able to confirm that both Jonny Evans and Anthony Martial, who could leave the club at the end of this season, have returned to full training ahead of this weekend.

Erik ten Hag has said that Bruno Fernandes is a ‘doubt’ though but did say ‘never rule him out for any game’. Scott McTominay is also a doubt having not trained all week.

PREDICTED XI (4-2-3-1): Onana; Dalot, Maguire, Evans, Wan-Bissaka; Casemiro, Mainoo; Antony, Mount, Garnacho; Hojlund

UNAVAILABLE: Kambwala (Injured), Lindelof (Injured), Martinez (Injured), Varane (Injured), Malacia (Injured), Shaw (Injured), Rashford (Injured)

QUESTIONABLE: McTominay (Injured), Fernandes (Injured)

THE PREDICTION

Backing against Manchester United is foolish at this stage. No matter how badly they play, no matter how disjointed or slow they look and no matter the off-field issues, they have tended to just find a way this season. That was unsustainable, though, and they could, or at least should, finish the season with a bit of a whimper. Given that, Palace’s home advantage and their own excellent form at the moment, backing Oliver Glasner’s men would appear decent value.

TIP: DOUBLE CHANCE – CRYSTAL PALACE TO WIN OR DRAW
