THE LOWDOWN
CRYSTAL PALACE
- Prior to their final game before the international break, Crystal Palace sacked manager Patrick Vieira. Vieira was replaced by former Eagles boss Roy Hodson with the Croydon club yet to win a game in 2023 and having a healthy points gap over the bottom three trimmed significantly.
- Both Vicente Guaita and Sam Johnstone have returned to the first team but Chris Richards and Nathan Ferguson are now missing due to injury.
LEICESTER
- Brendan Rodgers and the playing staff at Leicester City have, it seems at least in interviews, failed to recognise the danger that The Foxes are in. They begin this weekend’s round of fixtures sitting 17th in the Premier League table.
- According to Rodgers, The Foxes are hopeful that both Victor Kristiansen and Harry Souttar will be able to feature at Selhurst Park. Youri Tielemans has had an injury setback, though, so will be missing.

THE PREDICTION
Roy Hodgson returns to a Crystal Palace side yet to win in 2023 and just three points off the bottom three and the relegation places. Hodgson will get The Eagles more organised in what is likely to be a 4-4-2 system and given the array of expressive attackers they have, a structured environment should benefit them in an effective manner. Leicester are in serious trouble and have been reliant on high-scoring victories to stay clear of the bottom three. A high-scoring thriller is unlikely to take place in a Roy Hodgson opening game. Given that, Palace will be slight favourites with home advantage but their desire and intent, which they have been generally good at anyway, will be locking the opposition down.
