THE LOWDOWN

CRYSTAL PALACE

  • Crystal Palace’s narrow 1-0 defeat away at Man Utd last time out was a third straight loss for the Eagles in the Premier League and the onus is on them to arrest this poor run sharpish having slipped down the table as a result.
  • Midfielder James McArthur is close to a return from injury but will not quite make it while Joachim Andersen is in contention after he a made a return to the training pitches this week.

EVERTON

  • After a run of eight Premier League games that saw Everton pick up just two points and not a single victory, the Toffees finally got back to winning ways this past Monday night, showing excellent character to come from behind and beat Arsenal 2-1 in front of a raucous Goodison Park.
  • The one negative to come out of Everton’s win against the Gunners was defender Yerry Mina being forced off with a calf problem that will see him miss the trip to South London, whilst manager Rafael Benitez will also be without striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin.

THE PREDICTION

Everton travel to Crystal Palace full of momentum following their three points against Arsenal, but have scored just two goals across their last five away matches in the Premier League. They face a side desperate to do what Everton have just done and end their recent winless streak, but the Eagles themselves have struggled in front of goal recently, finding the net just once over the course of their most recent three league fixtures. The signs point to a contest likely to be low on clear-cut opportunities with the visitors prioritising defensive stability, as you would usually expect from a side managed by Rafa Benitez away from home. This may lead to frustration for Crystal Palace going forward, who themselves must be aware of the threat posed by the likes of Richarlison and former player Andros Townsend. With the match itself capable of going either way, back under 2.5 goals to be scored across the 90 minutes.

Tip: UNDER 2.5 GOALS
