THE LOWDOWN
CHELSEA
After a promising 1-1 draw with Liverpool on the opening weekend, Chelsea came crashing back down to earth with a hugely disappointing 3-1 defeat at the hands of West Ham last Sunday.
The Blues were on the back foot from the beginning, going behind to a Naif Aguerd goal after just seven minutes, and although promising youngster Carney Chukwuemeka put Chelsea level just before the half-hour mark, it was West Ham who were the more impressive side after the break with goals from Michail Antonio and Lucas Paqueta doing the damage.
LUTON
Luton's scheduled fixture with fellow promoted side Burnley was postponed last week due to the fact that improvements were needed on their stadium in order to meet Premier League standards, so by the time this fixture kicks off, it will have been over two weeks since the Hatters were last in action.
Rob Edwards' side were handily beaten 4-1 by an impressive Brighton in their Premier League opener in what was very much a 'welcome to the Premier League' encounter. The fixture calendar certainly hasn't been too kind to them art the start of the season, but with Chelsea needing time to gel their new stars, this might not be a bad time to be facing them.
THE TEAM NEWS
CHELSEA
The Chelsea treatment room is as busy as ever with Carney Chukwuemeka adding to the numbers after picking up an injury last weekend, while Mykhailo Mudryk will miss out with a minor complaint. Armando Broja is now back in training but this fixture is likely to come a little too soon for the striker.
Moises Caicedo struggled in his cameo off the bench last week but Pochettino could hand the defensive midfielder his first start in a Blues shirt. Fellow new signing Romeo Lavia needs to build up his fitness and will not be considered yet.
PREDICTED XI (4-3-3): Sanchez, Disasi, Silva, Colwill; Gusto, Fernandez, Caicedo, Chilwell; Sterling, Madueke; Jackson
UNAVAILABLE: Bettinelli (Injured), Fofana (Injured), Chalobah (Injured), James (Injured), Lavia (Fitness), Chukwuemeka (Injured), Mudryk (Injured), Nkunku (Injured)
QUESTIONABLE: Badiashile (Fitness), Broja (Fitness)
LUTON
Gabriel Osho, Dan Potts and Jordan Clark remain out for the Hatters, with Rob Edwards reporting no fresh injuries in his pre-match press conference. Reece Burke, however, has returned to training and is likely to be available for selection.
New signings Tim Krul and Ross Barkley are available for selection and the latter in particular is likely to take to the field at some point, although Edwards may choose to go for an unchanged XI from the beginning.
PREDICTED XI (3-5-2): Kaminski; Andersen, Lockyer, Bell; Kabore, Mpanzu, Nakamba, Chong, Giles; Morris, Adebayo
UNAVAILABLE: Osho (Injured), Potts (Injured), Clark (Injured)
QUESTIONABLE: Burke (Fitness)
THE PREDICTION
Maurizio Pochettino will of course be granted time to work with his new players and integrate them into the system he wants to play, but questions may start to be asked should his side fail to see off newly-promoted Luton here. The gulf in quality is vast all over the pitch so you would expect the hosts to register their first victory of the season, although it is unlikely to be as convincing as Chelsea fans will be hoping for. A victory for the hosts looks likely, but don't be surprised if Luton find the net themselves along the way.
TIP: CHELSEA TO WIN & OVER 2.5 GOALS
