THE LOWDOWN
BURNLEY
Vincent Kompany has been banned the touchline with his Clarets side showing signs of fight and improvement as we head into the run in. They were, though, undermined by a major Arijanet Muric mistake last weekend as they suffered a pivotal 1-0 defeat at Goodison Park against struggling Everton.
The Lancastrians had been unbeaten in four matches before that game and have shown a flicker of hope but they begin the match day sitting six points adrift of safety with just 18 to play for. They have struggled for any real cohesion at both ends of the pitch throughout the campaign but have definitely got a lot better.
BRIGHTON
Roberto De Zerbi is a coach that has been heavily linked with several of the big job vacancies this summer, such as Bayern Munich and Barcelona, but he will be aiming to finish this season with a flourish at Brighton and Hove Albion. The Seagulls remain in the hunt for a top seven or eight finish and back-to-back European qualifications.
The visitors do, though, come into this on the back of being completely dismissed by title challengers Arsenal at the AMEX Stadium last weekend thanks to goals from Bukayo Saka, Kai Havertz and Leandro Trossard. That loss means that Brighton have now managed just two victories in their last nine matches across all competitions.
THE TEAM NEWS
BURNLEY
Vincent Kompany, who will not be on the sidelines as mentioned, is also without defender Dara O’Shea, following his red card against Everton last weekend.
Goalkeeper James Trafford has returned to the squad after suffering from illness but Muric is expected to stay in goal, whilst both Jordan Beyer and Ameen Al Dakhil are edging closer to a return.
PREDICTED XI (4-4-2): Muric; Assignon, Esteve, Taylor, Vitinho; Foster, Cullen, Berge, Larsen; Odobert, Fofana
UNAVAILABLE: Beyer (Injured), Al Dakhil (Injured), O’Shea (Suspended), Massengo (Injured), Ramsey (Injured), Redmond (Injured), Koleosho (Injured)
QUESTIONABLE:
BRIGHTON
Roberto De Zerbi has confirmed that Tariq Lamptey and Julio Enciso have both been added to Brighton's fairly long injury list ahead of this weekend. He also said that Bart Verbruggen would remain in net for the Seagulls.
The visitors remain without other key first-teamers such as Adam Webster, James Milner, Jack Hinshelwood, Billy Gilmour, Solly March, Kaoru Mitoma and Evan Ferguson.
PREDICTED XI (4-2-3-1): Verbruggen; Veltman, Van Hecke, Dunk, Estupinan; Baleba, Gross; Welbeck, Lallana, Adingra; Joao Pedro
UNAVAILABLE: Webster (Injured), Lamptey (Injured), Milner (Injured), Hinshelwood (Injured), Gilmour (Injured), March (Injured), Mitoma (Injured), Enciso (Injured), Ferguson (Injured)
QUESTIONABLE:
THE PREDICTION
Based on form, Burnley may well be the team to favour for this one. The Clarets are missing a key cog in their defence in Dara O’Shea but have found a groove in terms of going forward and, up against a defensively susceptible Brighton side, Burnley scoring would seem quite likely. Brighton, though, do remain the overwhelming favourites for this one and backing them remains the sensible bet for this one.
TIP: BRIGHTON TO WIN & BOTH TEAMS TO SCORE
