THE LOWDOWN

BURNLEY

  • Burnley looked set for what would have been a hammer blow of a defeat away to Watford last Saturday, but a dramatic final ten-minute turnaround at Vicarage Road saw the Clarets triumph 1-2, a seismic three points in their battle for survival.
  • Both Jay Rodriguez and Maxwel Cornet face late fitness tests to determine their involvement in this one whilst Erik Pieters is looking good to return to the fold.

ASTON VILLA

  • Aston Villa got back to winning ways against Norwich most recently at Villa Park, relegating the Canaries with a 2-0 victory at Villa Park combined with Burnley’s triumph at Watford as both Ollie Watkins and Danny Ings got on the scoresheet.
  • Winger Leon Bailey started against Norwich, but will miss out here through injury with Emi Buendia a contender to replace him after gaining an assist against his old club off the bench last weekend, while Jacob Ramsey is huge doubt.

THE PREDICTION

Mike Jackson and his temporary coaching team, including the injured defender Ben Mee continue to work wonders for Burnley, who have picked up ten points from their last four matches following the sacking of Sean Dyche, winning their most recent three games. Aston Villa are expected to pose their toughest challenge at Turf Moor, coming off the back of that win over Norwich and when taking into account the attacking players at Steven Gerrard’s disposal, the hosts will need to be at their very best defensively. As has been the case in Burnley’s last two home fixtures, a nervous scrappy encounter is on the cards and as was the case in each of those games, be sure to back under 2.5 goals scored.

Tip: UNDER 2.5 GOALS
