THE LOWDOWN
BRIGHTON
Brighton and Hove Albion may be in the middle of their entire season unravelling as they come into this one on the back of a 4-0 hammering at the hands of Roma at the Stadio Olimpico in the Italian capital on Thursday evening in the first-leg of their UEFA Europa League Round of 16 tie the other night with goals from Paulo Dybala, Romelu Lukaku, Gianluca Mancini and Bryan Cristante.
The Seagulls had recently been knocked out in the fifth round of the FA Cup, too, losing 1-0 at Wolverhampton Wanderers at Molineux about ten days ago. In between those games they slipped out of the top seven and the European spots in the Premier League after losing 3-0 at Craven Cottage against Fulham.
NOTTINGHAM FOREST
The pressure is really growing on Nuno Espirito Santo and Nottingham Forest at the moment with a potential points deduction set to drag them into the bottom three and the relegation places. They will also be fuming with successive, narrow, late controversial defeats in the last ten days against Manchester United in the FA Cup and then Liverpool in the Premier League.
After Casemiro scored a late winner for United in their fifth round tie at the City Ground amid suggestions there should have been an offside for blocking similar to what happened in the EFL Cup final between Liverpool and Chelsea, an inarguable refereeing mistake by Paul Tierney allowed Liverpool to have the ball back late on last weekend before eventually finding a 99th minute winner via Darwin Nunez.
THE TEAM NEWS
BRIGHTON
Roberto De Zerbi is now searching around for a winning formula after some dreadful performances by the Seagulls of late. He was able to welcome back Paraguayan attacker Julio Enciso to the first-team squad, last weekend.
Despite Enciso's return, though, Brighton remain without several first-teamers this season. Japanese international Kaoru Mitoma is expected to miss the rest of the campaign alongside Solly March, whilst Billy Gilmour will also remain suspended for this weekend.
PREDICTED XI (3-4-2-1): Steele; Webster, Dunk, Van Hecke; Lamptey, Baleba, Gross, Estupinan; Lallana, Enciso; Ferguson
UNAVAILABLE: Milner (Injured), Gilmour (Suspended), Hinshelwood (Injured), March (Injured), Mitoma (Injured), Joao Pedro (Injured)
QUESTIONABLE:
NOTTINGHAM FOREST
Nuno Espirito Santo said in his pre-match press conference that midfielder Nicolas Dominguez has 'recovered well' after limping off last weekend and is in contention for this week but will need to be assessed.
The likes of Willy Boly, Ola Aina and Chris Wood have all been involved in training this week so could all also return, too, whilst Nuno Tavares is unavailable due to injury still.
PREDICTED XI (4-2-3-1): Sels; Williams, Omobamidele, Murillo, Toffolo; Yates, Danilo; Elanga, Gibbs-White, Hudson-Odoi, Awoniyi
UNAVAILABLE: Tavares (Injured)
QUESTIONABLE: Boly (Injured), Aina (Injured), Dominguez (Injured), Wood (Injured)
THE PREDICTION
It is not really known what to make of Brighton as the Seagulls are in the middle of a genuinely good season once again but they have been very inconsistent this time around. They remain entertaining to watch for the neutral, though, with their 27 matches so far this season consisting of 93 goals. Nottingham Forest have managed 34 in 27, despite being coached by two pragmatic and safety first managers in Steve Cooper and Nuno this season. Goals should be expected as Brighton seek a reaction and Forest are desperate.
