THE LOWDOWN
BRIGHTON
- Brighton and Hove Albion remained stubborn in midweek with Tony Bloom committed to keeping Moises Caicedo at the club and they did so. The Seagulls are soaring in the Premier League as they begin the weekend’s round of fixtures in the top six and defeated Liverpool in the fourth round of the FA Cup last week.
- De Zerbi has stated that Tariq Lamptey will play against Bournemouth, which could see Pascal Gross move into a defensive midfield role in the absence of suspended World Cup winner Alex Mac Allister.
BOURNEMOUTH
- The takeover of AFC Bournemouth by an American consortium, led by Bill Foley and including actor Michael B. Jordan, has been followed by an impressive January transfer window. The Cherries picked off Illya Zabarnyi on deadline day; the Ukrainian is one of the most highly-rated centre-backs in European football.
- Dominic Solanke could well be involved should he recover in time but Kieffer Moore is an able deputy if needed, while Ryan Fredericks, David Brooks and Junior Stanislas are the only players definitively ruled out of this fixture.

THE PREDICTION
This south coast derby isn’t necessarily a rivalry but will be played with the tension and pace that a derby or rivalry demands as both sides have something major to play for. Brighton are seeking European qualification for the first time ever, whilst Bourenmouth are aiming to ensure Premier League survival after a January transfer window in which they spent over £50 million on permanent transfers. In Roberto De Zerbi’s 13 Premier League matches in charge, there have been a total of 48 goals. Gary O’Neil’s AFC Bournemouth come into this on the back of a much-needed point against Nottingham Forest but they have now won just two of their last 14 matches in all competitions with both of those victories coming against Everton in the space of three days. Goals should be expected, as well as a home win.
TIP: BRIGHTON TO WIN & OVER 2.5 GOALS
