THE LOWDOWN

BRENTFORD

It has been a miserable few months for Brentford this season as they begin the weekend’s round of fixtures sitting firmly in the relegation battle in the Premier League. However, the Bees’ performances have been much better than their results have shown of late and there is an expectation they ease themselves away from the bottom three.

Thomas Frank’s west Londoners come into this one on the back of a thrilling 3-3 draw with Aston Villa at Villa Park last weekend, which will still frustrate them, despite being a reasonable point, having taken a 3-1 lead in that game. That came a week after dominating Manchester United but being held to a 1-1 draw.

SHEFFIELD UTD

Sheffield United are now in that holding pattern that comes around this stage of the season whereby they are simply awaiting their relegation to be mathematically confirmed. The Blades begin this match day sitting nine points adrift of safety with just 21 points to play for but performances have at least improved recently.

The South Yorkshire club have drawn three of their last four matches, and that includes earning a point against Chelsea at Bramall Lane with Oli McBurnie scoring a second-half stoppage-time equaliser. They are winless in seven matches but have let two two-goal leads slip in that run of form, too.

THE TEAM NEWS

BRENTFORD

Thomas Frank has confirmed that key forward Ivan Toney will be fine to feature against Sheffield United after being a substitute last weekend for precautionary reasons against Aston Villa.

The Bees will also be able to welcome back both Ethan Pinnock and Kevin Schade but the likes of Ben Mee, Aaron Hickey and Rico Henry remain unavailable for this weekend's clash with United.

PREDICTED XI (3-5-2): Flekken; Ajer, Jorgensen, Collins; Roerslev, Janelt, Onyeka, Jensen, Reguilon; Toney, Wissa

UNAVAILABLE: Mee (Injured), Hickey (Injured), Henry (Injured), Dasilva (Injured)

QUESTIONABLE: Norgaard (Injured)

SHEFFIELD UTD

Chris Wilder has said that there will have to be a late check on key defender Jack Robinson after the left footer had to limp off in United’s 2-2 draw with Chelsea last weekend.

The visitors remain without several long-term absentees, though, as John Egan and Chris Basham remain sidelined alongside George Baldock, Max Lowe and Tom Davies among others.

PREDICTED XI (3-5-2): Grbic; Holgate, Ahmedhodzic, Robinson; Bogle, Hamer, Arblaster, Osborn, Trusty; Brereton Diaz, McBurnie

UNAVAILABLE: Egan (Injured), Basham (Injured), Baldock (Injured), Lowe (Injured), Norrington-Davies (Injured), Davies (Injured), Jebbison (Illness), Brewster (Injured)

QUESTIONABLE: Robinson (Injured)

THE PREDICTION

Brentford have been in really dodgy form since late autumn and the Bees are now in genuine danger of slipping into the relegation battle. However, as mentioned, performances have remained of a decent standard, especially recently. They now face a Sheffield United side that are also improving but most likely going through the motions until they can restart again in the second-tier in August. Brentford are firm favourites for this one, especially with their home advantage.
