THE LOWDOWN
BRENTFORD
Brentford’s poor run of form continued in midweek as, despite taking the lead on the night twice, they suffered a 3-2 defeat in extra time to Wolverhampton Wanderers in their FA Cup third round replay. The Bees have suffered five successive Premier League defeats, too, and they have managed just one win in their last ten matches across all competitions.
However, they head into this weekend’s crucial six-pointer at home to Nottingham Forest with some much-needed and very important reinforcements. Defender Kristoffer Ajer has returned from injury and Sergio Reguilon has been brought in on loan from Tottenham Hotspur but the biggest news is the return of Ivan Toney from suspension.
NOTTINGHAM FOREST
Nuno Espirito Santo replaced Steve Cooper in mid-December and, although Cooper did an excellent job at the City Ground and was admired by supporters, performances and results have most definitely improved. Forest remain in the relegation battle, though, and need to keep up the momentum they got just before the New Year.
They lost 3-2 at home to AFC Bournemouth before Christmas but it was a strong performance with ten men for a large part of the game before coming from behind to defeat Newcastle by three goals to one on Boxing Day. They then defeated Manchester United by two goals to one before eventually forcing themselves Blackpool after extra time in their FA Cup third round replay in midweek.
THE TEAM NEWS
BRENTFORD
In his pre-match press conference, Thomas Frank has confirmed that Ivan Toney will return to the Brentford team tomorrow after his eight-month ban for gambling offences. Frank said ‘he’s starting tomorrow and will be captain’.
The Bees remain without a couple of key players, though, such as Rico Henry and Bryan Mbeumo but defender Kristoffer Ajer did return from injury the other day, starting at Molineux. Sergio Reguilon could also be available after completing his move to west London.
PREDICTED XI (3-5-2): Flekken; Ajer, Pinnock, Collins; Roerslev, Jensen, Janelt, Dasilva, Lewis-Potter; Toney, Maupay
UNAVAILABLE: Henry (Injured), Mbeumo (Injured), Hickey (Injured), Schade (Injured), Wissa (International duty), Onyeka (International duty), Ghoddos (International duty), Norgaard (Injured)

NOTTINGHAM FOREST
Nuno Espirito Santo is missing several key players for this weekend’s visit to the capital. Striker Taiwo Awoniyi remains unavailable until at least March, whilst defender Felipe will also be missing due to a hamstring injury.
Forest have been hit hard for the Africa Cup of Nations with Ibrahim Sangare, Moussa Niakhate, Ola Aina, Willy Boly, Cheikhou Kouyate and Serge Aurier all away on international duty. Morgan Gibbs-White missed the midweek game with Blackpool due to injury, too.
PREDICTED XI (4-2-3-1): Turner; Montiel, Worrall, Murillo, Toffolo; Yates, Danilo; Elanga, Dominguez, Hudson-Odoi; Wood
UNAVAILABLE: Gibbs-White (Injured), Aurier (International duty), Kouyate (International duty), Boly (International duty), Aina (International duty), Niakhate (International duty), Sangare (International duty), Origi (Injured), Elanga (Injured), Felipe (Injured), Awoniyi (Injured)
QUESTIONABLE:
THE PREDICTION
Ivan Toney will lead out Brentford on Saturday evening as he faces a Nottingham Forest side that have been much-improved. However, The Bees, despite still missing some key men, will be aware they have majorly underperformed their expected goals so far this season and therefore the return of Toney could be crucial in turning that around. Nottingham Forest have still been regularly conceding over a goal per game on the expected goals against rate so backing Brentford to end the visitors’ good form would appear a value bet, especially with their home advantage.
TIP: BRENTFORD TO WIN
