BRENTFORD PREVIEW: BEES BUZZING AS SEASON ENDS

Thomas Frank has been heavily linked with departing the Gtech Community Stadium this summer and joining Manchester United. For now, though, he will simply be aiming to finish the Bees’ season with a flourish as they did last year by defeating the eventual treble winners Manchester City by a goal to nil on the final day of the campaign.

Brentford have performed better than their results have shown for much of this campaign and the results have begun to revert to the mean again of late with a major improvement since the March international break. Their 2-1 defeat of AFC Bournemouth last weekend means they have suffered just one defeat in their last eight matches.

NEWCASTLE PREVIEW: THE BATTLE FOR EUROPE

Despite the mega money takeover of Newcastle United a couple of years ago and the fact that the Magpies finished fourth last season, it has been an impressive campaign for Eddie Howe’s Tynesiders due to the extra games that they have played and, quite frankly, the ridiculous amount of key injuries that they have had throughout the campaign.

Their difficulties have made it fairly inconsistent but they begin this weekend’s round of fixtures sitting tucked inside the top seven and the European spots and a victory this weekend will confirm that. They did, though, suffer a blow in midweek as Manchester United edged them out by three goals to two at Old Trafford the other day.

BRENTFORD TEAM NEWS: NO FRESH ISSUES

Thomas Frank was not asked any questions regarding team news in his final pre-match press conference of the season but we do know that both Nathan Collins and Frank Onyeka were minor doubts last weekend.

The Bees also remain without a few key first-team absentees that have been out for a long time now with the likes of Ben Mee, Aaron Hickey, Rico Henry and Josh Dasilva still all unavailable.

PREDICTED XI (4-3-3): Flekken; Ajer, Collins, Pinnock, Sergio Reguilon; Damsgaard, Norgaard, Janelt; Mbeumo, Toney, Lewis-Potter

UNAVAILABLE: Mee (Injured), Hickey (Injured), Henry (Injured), Dasilva (Injured)

QUESTIONABLE: Collins (Injured), Onyeka (Injured)

NEWCASTLE TEAM NEWS: GORDON A DOUBT

Eddie Howe has had to confirm that he is 'not 100% sure' on the availability of key attacker Anthony Gordon and he will have to be assessed before the game.

The Magpies are expected to welcome back Callum Wilson for this weekend's trip down to west London, whilst Tino Livramento is atill also unavailable.

PREDICTED XI (4-3-3): Dubravka; Trippier, Krafth, Burn, Hall; Longstaff, Bruno Guimaraes, Anderson; Murphy, Isak, Gordon

UNAVAILABLE: Botman (Injured), Lascelles (Injured), Livramento (Injured), Targett (Injured), Tonali (Suspended), Willock (Injured), Miley (Injured)

QUESTIONABLE: Gordon (Injured), Wilson (Injured)

BRENTFORD VS NEWCASTLE PREDICTION

As mentioned, Brentford are finishing the season very strongly as they begin to revert to the mean with performances staying at a similar level but finishing improving and players returning from injury or suspension. They will, though, play host to a team that will need to really be ‘at it’ and if Eddie Howe’s post-match interview after the Manchester United game is anything to go by then they most certainly will. Backing Newcastle looks the way to go in this one.
