THE LOWDOWN
BRENTFORD
- Brentford showed plenty of fighting spirit last week, coming from two goals down to take a point against Leicester, and they will certainly fancy their chances of another result against this much-criticised Man Utd outfit.
- Defensive trio Sergi Canos, Kristoffer Ajer and Ethan Pinnock remain sidelined for the Bees while new signing Mikkel Damsgaard could well be in the squad but is not deemed ready to start.
MAN UTD
- The job facing new boss Erik ten Hag became all too clear after last weekend’s defeat to Brighton, with the same lack of cohesion on show that has been their undoing for some time now.
- The new boss has remained tight-lipped as to whether Cristiano Ronaldo will start but, after a week of training behind him, it seems likely that the club’s top scorer last season will be given the nod.

THE PREDICTION
With Liverpool the opponents next week for Man Utd – a side who beat them 9-0 on aggregate in the Premier League last season – a win is vital here for new manager Erik ten Hag. The Dutchman was understandably displeased with the performance and result against Brighton last week, but he will hope that an extra week of training with this heavily-criticised squad will have allowed him some more time to bed in his ideas. It would not be surprising to see Cristiano Ronaldo take his place in the Red Devils starting line-up, and despite the fact Thomas Frank’s Brentford side can be stubborn opponents, we’re backing the Ten Hag era to get up-and-running here with a much improved display, and more importantly, three points.
TIP: MAN UTD TO WIN
