THE LOWDOWN
BRENTFORD
Brentford suffered their first defeat of the season last Saturday when they lost 1-0 to Newcastle, with Bees boss Thomas Frank unimpressed by the decision to award the Magpies the penalty that ultimately decided the game.
It was a fairly scrappy affair at St. James' Park, with neither side particularly dominating matters, and it wasn't until midway through the second half that the deadlock was broken, with Callum Wilson converting from the spot after Anthony Gordon was adjudged to have been fouled. Brentford huffed and puffed, but were unable to get back on level terms.
EVERTON
Alarm bells are starting to ring at Everton after another defeat last weekend, which leaves the Toffees on just one point after five games played.
There was some dogged defending from Sean Dyche's men against Arsenal on Sunday, but once again a lack of bite in attack cost them with Leandro Trossard's fine strike enough to separate the sides. Everton have scored just two goals in the league this season - the joint lowest alongside Luton at the time of writing.
THE TEAM NEWS
BRENTFORD
A solution is required at left-back after Rico Henry suffered a serious injury at St. James' Park last week and will face a lengthy spell on the sidelines, while Ben Mee, Kristoffer Ajer and Mikkel Damsgaard are doubts for the weekend.
Thomas Frank deployed a defensive five-at-the-back system against Newcastle but is likely to revert to his favoured 4-3-3 setup here, with Kevin Schade set to come back into the XI.
PREDICTED XI (4-3-3): Flekken; Roerslev, Pinnock, Mee, Hickey; Norgaard, Jensen, Janelt; Mbeumo, Wissa, Schade
UNAVAILABLE: Henry (Injured), Dasilva (Injured), Baptiste (Injured), Toney (Suspended)
QUESTIONABLE: Mee (Injured), Ajer (Injured), Damsgaard (Injured)
EVERTON
Sean Dyche has stated that, although Jack Harrison has returned to training, he is not ready for a start, which points towards his potential inclusion in the squad. Seamus Coleman, meanwhile, is making good progress in his recovery from a knee injury but has not yet resumed training.
Dominic Calvert-Lewin will be considered for a start after coming off then bench against Arsenal last weekend, although Beto will hope to retain his place as HE searches for his first Premier League goal.
PREDICTED XI (4-5-1): Pickford; Young, Tarkowski, Branthwaite, Mykolenko; Danjuma, Gueye, Onana, Doucoure, McNeil; Calvert-Lewin
UNAVAILABLE: Coleman (Injured), Dele (Injured)
QUESTIONABLE: Gomes (Injured), Harrison (Fitness)
THE PREDICTION
The early signs are worrying for Everton, who look destined for another battle to avoid relegation unless Sean Dyche can somehow get them to click in attack. By contrast, Brentford are a well-oiled machine under Thomas Frank and will be keen to return to winning ways following their first defeat of the season. The Bees have drawn all three of their home games so far, but this looks like an excellent opportunity for them to collect all three points at the Gtech.
TIP: BRENTFORD TO WIN
