THE LOWDOWN
ASTON VILLA
- It has been a largely disjointed start to the season for Aston Villa with Steven Gerrard hugely disappointed with his side’s inability to follow up their win over Everton as they fell to defeat to Crystal Palace last week, although the midweek League Cup victory over Bolton was a welcome one.
- Long-term absentee Diego Carlos is the only player Steve Gerrard cannot call upon at the moment as the Villa boss continues to search for the right formula.
WEST HAM
- After such an impressive 2021-22 campaign, few would have predicted that West Ham would make such a slow start to season, with the Hammers having lost all three of their Premier League games so far and have the unwanted record of being the only team yet to find the net.
- David Moyes has suggested that Gianluca Scamacca – who was once again on the scoresheet in the Europa Conference League on Thursday - is very close to his first Premier League start, but the Italian may have to what a little longer as he continues to build up his fitness levels.

THE PREDICTION
Aston Villa and West Ham will be desperate for the points here as both have made poor starts to the league campaign, and that could lead to a fairly open and entertaining affair as both push for the win. Despite not finding the net in the Premier League, West Have scored six goals across two matches in Europe recently, while Villa scored four on the road against Bolton Wanderers in the League Cup on Tuesday. If they can translate that goalscoring form to this encounter, then over 2.5 goals certainly has a decent chance of coming in.
TIP: OVER 2.5 GOALS
