ASTON VILLA PREVIEW: GIANT KILLERS
Aston Villa's 1-0 win over Bayern Munich in the UEFA Champions League on Wednesday - courtesy of a fine opportunist strike from super sub Jhon Duran - will live long in the memory with Unai Emery receiving plenty of plaudits for this tactical astuteness in defeating the German giants.
The midlanders were held to a 2-2 draw by promoted outfit Ipswich in the Premier League last weekend but they have lost one of their nine games in all competitions this season.
MAN UTD PREVIEW: TEN HAG ON THE BRINK
The vultures are once again swirling over Erik ten hag's future after the Red Devils delivered an abject display at Old Trafford last Sunday, losing 0-3 to Tottenham.
It didn't get much between in the Europa League on Thursday, as after going two goals to the good against Porto, they conspired to concede three goals to the Portuguese side. Harry Maguire did at least spare their blushes though, the centre-back scoring an injury-time equaliser. Ten Hag's men are now four games without a win in all competitions.
ASTON VILLA TEAM NEWS: DOUBTS OVER ONANA, RAMSEY & BAILEY
Amadou Onana, Jacob Ramsey and Leon Bailey are all nursing knocks following the Bayern win, with Onana deemed the likeliest to recover for Sunday's fixture.
With Jhon Duran making a compelling case for a Premier League start, this could be the opportunity for Emery to partner the in-form Colombian with Ollie Watkins.
PREDICTED XI (4-2-2-2): Martinez; Konsa, Carlos, Torres, Digne; Onana, Tielemans; Philogene, Rogers; Duran, Watkins
UNAVAILABLE: Mings (Injured), Kamara (Injured), McGinn (Injured)
QUESTIONABLE: Onana (Injured), Ramsey (Injured), Bailey (Injured)
MAN UTD TEAM NEWS: MAINOO AND MOUNT TO BE CHECKED
Kobbie Manoo and Mason Mount, both of whom missed out on Thursday, need to be assessed for their availability, with Leny Yoro, Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia now the only players certain to miss out. Bruno Fernandes - who was also dismissed in Europe on Thursday - has had the red card he received against Spurs rescinded.
After scoring on his first start since returning from a hamstring injury, Ten Hag will be tempted to start with Rasmus Hojlund but may err on the side of caution with the Danish striker.
PREDICTED XI (4-2-3-1): Onana; Mazraoui, De Ligt, Martinez, Dalot; Casemiro, Eriksen; Garnacho, Fernandes, Rashford; Hojlund
UNAVAILABLE: Yoro (Injured), Shaw (Injured), Malacia (Injured)
QUESTIONABLE: Mainoo (Injured), Mount (Injured)
ASTON VILLA VS MAN UTD PREDICTION
The mood surrounding these two teams could not be more contrasting right now, with Aston Villa thriving under Unai Emery's leadership and on a high after their historic win over Bayern Munich midweek, while Man Utd are in something of a desperate situation with Erik ten Hag just about clinging on to his job.
Although the Bayern victory will have taken a fair bit out of the Villa players, Ten Hag played something close to his first eleven in the Europa League a day later, so both sides should be in similar physical shape ahead of this contest. In what could be the final straw in Ten Hag's spell as manager, a Villa win is expected.
