THE LOWDOWN
ASTON VILLA
- It may only be one game in, but Aston Villa’s limp opening weekend defeat to promoted outfit Bournemouth was a worrying sign for a side that stuttered towards a 14th-place finish at the end of last season.
- Tyrone Mings has fully recovered from an adductor issue and could take his place in the centre of defence, while Steven Gerrard will not shy away from making further changes following last weekend’s disappointing performance.
EVERTON
- There isn’t a great deal of optimism in the Everton camp at the moment and an opening weekend defeat certainly hasn’t helped matters, but in fairness the Toffees were hardly rolled over by Chelsea and could have even salvaged a point.
- New signing Conor Coady could be thrust straight into the starting line-up in light of injuries to fellow centre-backs Yerry Mina and Ben Godfrey, while Frank Lampard has another option up front now as Salomon Rondon is available following suspension.

THE PREDICTION
There are plenty of similarities here with two young English managers going head-to-head after seeing their respective sides fall to defeat in their opening fixtures. It would not be surprising to see both teams cancel each other out here, with a safety-first approach very much on the cards. With neither managing to find the net last week, a low-scoring affair could ensue, and although home advantage may give Villa the slight edge, we’re edging towards the under 2.5 goals market in this one.
TIP: UNDER 2.5 GOALS
