THE LOWDOWN

ASTON VILLA

There is a real chance that Aston Villa will fade in the final month of the campaign due to fatigue but Unai Emery’s style of football appears perfectly suited to a small squad coping with playing lots and lots of matches. That was shown by their victory over AFC Bournemouth at the Villa Park in their most recent outing, last weekend.

Fresh off the back of a hard-fought defeat of Lille on penalties in the quarter-finals of the UEFA Europa Conference League around ten days or so ago, Villa then managed to come from behind to defeat Bournemouth by three goals to one with strikes from Morgan Rogers, Moussa Diaby and Leon Bailey.

CHELSEA

It was a fairly harrowing week for Mauricio Pochettino and Chelsea in midweek as the Blues were annihilated by their capital city rivals Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium. The title challenging Gunners thrashed Chelsea by five goals to nil with Leandro Trossard opening the scoring before braces from Kai Havertz and Ben White.

That loss came on the back of suffering a 1-0 loss to Manchester City at Wembley Stadium last weekend in the semi-finals of the FA Cup with Bernardo Silva scoring a late winning goal. Chelsea have significantly underperformed throughout the campaign with their 32 matches in the Premier League consisting of 118 goals.

THE TEAM NEWS

ASTON VILLA

In his pre-match press conference, former Sevilla and Arsenal boss Unai Emery has confirmed that both Alex Moreno and Nicolo Zaniolo will be unavailable for this weekend.

The pair have now joined the likes of Tyrone Mings, Boubacar Kamara, Jacob Ramsey and Emi Buendia on the sidelines as the Blues visit Villa Park. Douglas Luiz returns from suspension.

PREDICTED XI (4-4-2): Martinez; Konsa, Diego Carlos, Pau Torres, Digne; McGinn, Douglas Luiz, Tielemans, Bailey; Diaby, Watkins

UNAVAILABLE: Mings (Injured), Alex Moreno (Injured), Kamara (Injured), Ramsey (Injured), Zaniolo (Injured), Buendia (Injured)

QUESTIONABLE:

CHELSEA

Mauricio Pochettino has confirmed that England international and Chelsea's key player Cole Palmer will return to the Blues' first-team squad after he missed the defeat to Arsenal with illness.

Carney Chukwuemeka and Raheem Sterling are now fresh doubts, though, whilst full-backs Malo Gusto and Ben Chilwell remain unavailable due to injury. Enzo Fernandez is also expected to be out for the season.

PREDICTED XI (4-2-3-1): Petrovic; Gilchrist, Thiago Silva, Badiashile, Cucurella; Caicedo, Gallagher; Madueke, Palmer, Mudryk; Jackson

UNAVAILABLE: Sanchez (Injured), Fofana (Injured), Colwill (Injured), James (Injured), Gusto (Injured), Chilwell (Injured), Ugochukwu (Injured), Lavia (Injured), Enzo Fernandez (Injured), Nkunku (Injured)

QUESTIONABLE: Chukwuemeka (Injured), Sterling (Injured)

THE PREDICTION

For nearly a year, Aston Villa went unbeaten in the Premier League at home but they did then suffer a few defeats during a major dip in form in January and February. As part of that they suffered a 3-1 loss at home to Chelsea in an FA Cup fourth round replay. Chelsea have an abundance of attacking talent and could welcome back key man Cole Palmer so should be improved upon their midweek performance. Villa remain favourites, though, as they target a top four finish and potential UEFA Champions League qualification.

TIP: ASTON VILLA TO WIN & BOTH TEAMS TO SCORE
