THE LOWDOWN

ASTON VILLA

  • Aston Villa delivered another hugely uninspiring performance against Nottingham Forest on Monday although their 1-1 draw at least extended their unbeaten run to four games, which is in fact their longest in the Premier League for almost two years.
  • Leon Bailey is fit and available again and Steven Gerrard may look towards the Jamaican to provide the spark, while Danny Ings could also be selected in a bid to increase firepower up front.

CHELSEA

  • Graham Potter’s impressive start in the Chelsea hot seat continued with victory against Wolves last weekend, and he followed that up with another assured victory over AC Milan in the Champions League.
  • The news that Reece James is set for a spell on the sidelines is a huge blow with the severity of his injury yet to be determined, while N’Golo Kante has suffered a setback in his own recovery and will also miss out.

THE TEAM NEWS

QUESTIONABLE:

CHELSEA

PREDICTED XI (3-4-2-1): Kepa; Chalobah, Thiago Silva, Koulibaly; Loftus-Cheek, Kovacic, Jorginho, Cucurella; Mount, Sterling; Aubameyang

UNAVAILABLE: Fofana (Injured), James (Injured), Kante (Injured)

QUESTIONABLE: Ziyech (Illness)

THE PREDICTION

Aston Villa may be dull right now but they are at least proving difficult to break down and the onus will be on Chelsea here to take the game to the hosts. The visitors are operating well in the early stages of Graham Potter’s tenure and the manager will be particularly pleased with the output of recent signing Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, who has scored in his last three starts for the club. Villa just haven’t offered enough creativity in attack lately to have any confidence in them here, with in-form Chelsea tipped to take the three points.

TIP: CHELSEA TO WIN
