THE LOWDOWN

ARSENAL

After letting the Premier League title slip between their fingers last season, Mikel Arteta's Arsenal come into the season with renewed enthusiasm after a successful summer in the transfer market, not to mention the fact they overcame reigning champions Man City in last weekend's Community Shield showdown.

Although Granit Xhaka has left the club, Declan Rice has come the other way and will surely improve the Gunners midfield, while the versatile Jurrien TImber looks an excellent addition to the squad.

NOTTINGHAM FOREST

Nottingham Forest flirted with relegation last season but Steve Cooper ultimately guided his team to survival and they will now contests a second consecutive season in the top flight of English football.

Pre-season results haven't exactly been a confidence-booster ahead of the new league campaign, with just three goals scored in their seven warm-up friendlies, and that is hardly ideal preparation for the trip to Emirates to face one of the top clubs in the league.

THE TEAM NEWS

ARSENAL

Mohamed Elneny and Gabriel Jesus are both sidelined with respective knee injuries, but in better news, Oleksandr Zincheno has resumed training. However, the Ukrainian's fitness levels may be such that Jurrien Timber deputises at left-back for the second week in a row.

Elsewhere, Kai Havertz - another summer signing - will hope to keep his spot up front, but will be under pressure from Eddie Nketiah. Meanwhile, Thomas Partey has been strongly linked with a move away from the club, but for now he remains a Gooner.

PREDICTED XI (4-3-3): Ramsdale; White, Saliba, Gabriel, Timber; Odegaard, Rice, Partey; Saka, Havertz, Martinelli

UNAVAILABLE: Elneny (Injured), Jesus (Injured)

QUESTIONABLE: Zinchenko (Fitness), Jorginho (Injured), Nelson (Injured), Balogun (Injured)

NOTTINGHAM FOREST

Wayne Hennessey and Felipe are the two confirmed absentees in Steve Cooper's squad, while Moussa Niakhate, Omar Richards and Taiwo Awoniyi are close to first-team action. The likes of Chris Wood and Emmanuel Dennis are alternatives to Brennan Johnson up front, although the latter does appear to be out of favour with the Forest boss.

PREDICTED XI (3-4-2-1): Turner; Worrall, Boly, McKenna; Aurier, Yates, Freuler, Williams; Danilo, Gibss-White; Johnson

UNAVAILABLE: Hennessey (Injured), Felipe (Injured)

QUESTIONABLE: Niakhate (Fitness), Richards (Fitness), Awoniyi (Fitness)

THE PREDICTION

Despite the heartbreak of missing out on the Premier League title last season, there remains a great deal of faith in Mikel Arteta and his Arsenal team. There will also be a measure of revenge in the air, as it was Forest who put the title beyond Arsenal's grasp when the two sides met in May. Expect Arteta's men to come out with purpose here and make a significant statement of their intent this season. Backing the hosts to be winning at both half-time and full-time is the betting tip.

TIP: DOUBLE RESULT – ARSENAL / ARSENAL
