EFL League Two Table – TSZ's Predicted Top Seven
As we count down to the beginning of the EFL season and the opening round of fixtures this coming weekend, TSZ assesses the runners and riders in terms of the promotion battle, picking out our top contenders in each respective league. Here, we focus on Sky Bet League Two and who we think will finish in the top seven.
*Note that these are solely our predictions.
SKY BET LEAGUE TWO TOP SEVEN
1. Stockport County
2. Gillingham
3. Swindon Town
4. Mansfield Town
5. Northampton Town
6. Bradford City
7. Salford City
Rarely would one consider backing a newly promoted club to step up and finish top of their new division, but TSZ are making an exception for Stockport County. Winners of a formidable National League in 2021-22, Dave Challinor's side boasts an experienced core of players with plenty of EFL experience, not to mention exciting new signings such as Callum Camps and Fraser Horsfall. Challinor has shown his managerial credentials with back-to-back National League promotions and is well placed to lead Stockport to another successful season. Another excellent manager is Gillingham's Neil Harris and with him at the helm, we're tipping the Gills to bounce straight back up to League One at the first time of asking as runners-up. After play-off semi-final heartbreak last season, Swindon Town complete our predicted top three in League Two.
Both Mansfield Town and Northampton Town were forced to contest the play-offs in 2021-22 and we can see a similar outcome for both clubs this time round, although it would be no surprise to see them each challenging for one of those automatic promotion places, whilst Bradford City under the experienced guidance of Mark Hughes should enjoy a far more successful campaign than what they endured last time round. Whilst Salford City have undergone a significant turnover of players and a change of head coach, the financial muscle of the Ammies puts them in a position to challenge at the right end of the table and with them capable of doing further transfer business in January if required, we can see them completing the top seven.
