EFL League One Table – TSZ's Predicted Top Six

EFL League One Table – TSZ's Predicted Top Six

As we count down to the beginning of the EFL season and the opening round of fixtures this coming weekend, TSZ assesses the runners and riders in terms of the promotion battle, picking out our top contenders in each respective league. Here, we focus on Sky Bet League One and who we think will finish in the top six.

*Note that these are solely our predictions.

Sky Bet League One Top Six

1. Ipswich Town

2. Peterborough

3. Sheffield Wednesday

4. Bolton Wanderers

5. Barnsley

6. Oxford Utd

When factoring in the quality of Ipswich Town's squad combined with their signings of proven League One performers such as Marcus Harness from Portsmouth and Freddie Ladapo from Rotherham, it's hard to look beyond them to go on and win the division under head coach Kieran McKenna. It must also be noted that the strong financial backing of Ipswich's ownership should see them in a position to significantly strengthen in January if required.

Whilst both automatic promotion places should be highly contested throughout the season, TSZ are tipping Peterborough to edge out Sheffield Wednesday and bounce straight back up to the Championship. Scoring goals shouldn't prove a problem for a Peterborough side that boast the likes of Jonson Clarke-Harris and Jack Marriott, whilst in Grant McCann they have a head coach who led Hull City to promotion from League One back in 2020-21. We're predicting that Sheffield Wednesday will be forced to settle for a play-off place, whilst Bolton Wanderers look well set to continue their excellent progress across the past couple of years under Ian Evatt. Michael Duff's Barnsley and Karl Robinson's Oxford Utd look well-placed to complete the top six, although they will each face incredibly stiff competition.
