VENEZUELA PREVIEW: THE IMPROVEMENT OF VENEZUELA
Venezuela have been one of the weakest sides in South America for quite some time now but they have an excellent opportunity set out in front of them thanks to some resolute and resilient performances in the group stages.
The Venezuelans, who began CONMEBOL qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup well in the autumn too, started by coming from behind to defeat ten-man Ecuador and then edging past Mexico before hammering Jamaica to win Group B with three wins from three.
CANADA PREVIEW: MARSCH’S CANADIANS ON THE MARCH
The appointment of former Leeds United boss Jesse Marsch was quite an exciting one given the personnel at his disposal appeared and appears to fit well with his philosophy. Marsch’s first tournament has seen them progress, whilst the USA and Mexico have fallen at the first hurdle.
Canada began in controversial circumstances when they were beaten 2-0 by defending champions Argentina but recovered well to set themselves up for qualification with a 1-0 defeat of ten-man Peru and then a goalless draw with ten-man Chile.
VENEZUELA TEAM NEWS: DARWIN MACHIS SUSPENDED
Venezuela haven’t started with Darwin Machis yet in this tournament but the fiery attacker will be suspended for this one after picking up his second yellow card of the tournament. They have a settled 4-2-3-1 system, though.
PREDICTED XI (4-2-3-1): Rafael Romo; Jon Aramburu, Nahuel Ferraresi, Yordan Osorio, Miguel Navarro; Jose Martinez, Yangel Herrera; Eduard Bello, Cristian Casseres Jr, Yeferson Soteldo; Salomon Rondon
UNAVAILABLE: Darwin Machis (Suspended)

CANADA TEAM NEWS: BUCHANAN A MAJOR DOUBT
Jesse Marsch dropped Tajon Buchanan after the opening game against Argentina and now the Internazionale attacker is expected to be unavailable even off the bench for the Canadians with a broken tibia.
PREDICTED XI (4-2-3-1): Crepeau; Johnston, Moise Bombito, Cornelius, Davies; Kone, Eustaquio; Ahmed, David, Laryea; Larin
UNAVAILABLE: Buchanan (Injured)

VENEZUELA VS CANADA PREDICTION
Venezuela are defensively robust, as they have shown in the aforementioned start to FIFA World Cup qualification, and that may well suit them once again in this one as they come up against a Canadian side that squeezed through the group stages having scored just one goal and that coming against the ten men of Peru. Venezuela will fancy their chances of shutting out Canada and even if they do come out on top, it is not expected to be a thumping by any means.
