MEXICO PREVIEW: THE RE-EMERGENCE OF EL TRI

After a very disappointing group stage exit at the 2022 FIFA World Cup, Mexico moved on from Tata Martino and appointed former Necaxa boss Jaime Lozano. His appointment has, though, not really brought about much improvement from the Mexicans.

They come into this one on the back of back-to-back warm-up defeats to Uruguay and Brazil in which they conceded a combined total of seven goals after just about squeezing past a poor Bolivian side earlier this month.

JAMAICA PREVIEW: RIGID REGGAE BOYZ

Jamaica have a fair few Premier League players in their ranks with an exciting attacking intent with a potential front four to be fielded of Bobby Decordova-Reid, Leon Bailey, Demarai Gray and Michail Antonio.

The Reggae Boyz are coached by former Iceland boss Heimir Hallgrimsson, who has gained a reputation for fairly resolute and reactive football. That may well suit them in this tournament with the attacking flair they have up front on potential counter-attacks.

MEXICO TEAM NEWS: ALL TO GO THROUGH GIMENEZ

The Mexicans have opted to move onto a newer generation of players for this tournament with both Hirving Lozano and Raul Jimenez no longer in the squad. That will mean their attacking play will have to be funnelled through Feyenoord forward Santi Gimenez.

PREDICTED XI (4-3-3): Julio Gonzalez; Israel Reyes, Cesar Montes, Johan Vasquez, Gerardo Arteaga; Erick Sanchez, Edson Alvarez, Luis Chavez; Uriel Antuna, Gimenez, Quinones

JAMAICA TEAM NEWS: BIG DECISIONS TO BE MADE

Jamaica and Heimir Hallgrimsson have some decisions to make in terms of whether or not to go with older heads that have been in the squad, such as Richard King and Shamar Nicholson, or English-based players like Michael Hector and Michail Antonio.

PREDICTED XI (4-2-3-1): Blake; Lembikisa, Hector, Pinnock, Bell; Latibeaudiere, Anderson; Decordova-Reid, Bailey, Gray; Antonio

MEXICO VS JAMAICA PREDICTION

At the CONCACAF Gold Cup last summer, these two met in the semi-finals of the tournament at the Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas with Mexico taking an early lead, scoring late and eventually winning 3-0 but in between those goals, Jamaica had real chances throughout and will fancy their chances of causing a bit of an upset in their opener here against a Mexican side that have begun to fade and struggle for any cohesion in their build-up. Mexico should have enough to avoid defeat but both teams scoring does look a good bet.
