MEXICO PREVIEW: THE FALL OF EL TRI

Coached by Jaime Lozano, Mexico have continued on from their underwhelming 2022 FIFA World Cup when they were knocked out in the group stages. The perennial under achievers came into the tournament in poor form and that has continued.

Gerardo Arteaga scored a 69th minute winner to get an undeserved 1-0 victory over Jamaica in their opening encounter before they were then beaten 1-0 by Venezuela with a second-half penalty scored by Salomon Rondon.

ECUADOR PREVIEW: RECOVERING ECUADORIANS

Ecuador came into the tournament with relatively high expectations under the management of former Qatar boss Felix Sanchez. Their squad full of emerging talent suffered a surprise 2-1 loss against Venezuela in their opener.

They were down to ten men for well over an hour of that game after captain Enner Valencia was sent off but put in a much-improved performance against Jamaica, defeating the Caribbean outfit by three goals to one.

MEXICO TEAM NEWS: SKIPPER STILL IN DOUBT

The big blow for Mexico occurred in their opening game of the tournament when West Ham United midfielder Edson Alvarez suffered a hamstring injury and it remains unlikely that he will feature.

PREDICTED XI (4-2-3-1): Julio Gonzalez; Jorge Sanchez, Cesar Montes, Johan Vasquez, Gerardo Arteaga; Luis Romo, Luiz Chavez; Uriel Antuna, Orbelin Pineda, Quinones; Gimenez

ECUADOR TEAM NEWS: ENNER RETURNS

Ecuador are able to welcome back their skipper after he served his one-match suspension against Jamaica and, despite their win, he should come back into the eleven.

MEXICO VS ECUADOR PREDICTION

The Mexican public and supporters will head into co-hosting the 2026 FIFA World Cup with a fair bit of concern because the management of the side and the players that currently are available do appear to be below the standard for a country of their size and football fanaticism. Ecuador, on the other hand, will seek to continue their upward trajectory and forget about their surprise opening game loss with a double chance bet in their favour the best way to go for this one.
