CANADA PREVIEW: BIG WIN ON THE SECOND MATCH DAY

Under the management of former Red Bull Salzburg and Leeds United boss Jesse Marsch, Canada managed an impressive 1-0 defeat of Peru in their second match of Group A with Jonathan David notching a 74th minute winner on the counter-attack after Peru’s Miguel Araujo was sent off.

That much-needed result came after a 2-0 defeat to world champions Argentina in a game that Canada performed relatively well in with both goals coming in the second-half and some complaints lodged about Argentina taking too long with their half-time interval.

CHILE PREVIEW: STEADY, EXPERIENCED CHILEANS

Following the appointment of former Peru boss Ricardo Gareca, Chile have shown some entertaining signs during his tenure, which began at the start of this calendar year. That excitement has not quite been replicated at the 2024 Copa America, though.

Chile’s opening game saw them share a goalless draw with Ricardo Gareca’s former side, Peru. After that fairly even but underwhelming encounter, they then held Argentina to 88 minutes at 0-0 before Lautaro Martinez notched a late winner for the defending champions.

CANADA TEAM NEWS: UNCHANGED CANADIANS

Jesse Marsch identified a way to get more out of the likes of Jonathan David and Alphonso Davies with former Nottingham Forest defender Richie Laryea coming in at left-back and able to push Davies up the pitch with David actually playing centrally slightly off Cyle Larin.

PREDICTED XI (4-4-2): Crepeau; Johnston, Moise Bombito, Cornelius, Laryea; Millar, Kone, Eustaquio, Davies; David, Larin

CHILE TEAM NEWS: EXPERIENCED BUT UNCHANGED

One of the many Chilean veterans earned the Player of the Match award against Argentina with Claudio Bravo’s excellent performance being rewarded. Chile have an ageing squad but in a crucial game, it is unlikely they make any changes.

PREDICTED XI (4-2-3-1): Claudio Bravo; Isla, Igor Lichnovsky, Paulo Diaz, Gabriel Suazo; Erick Pulgar, Rodrigo Echeverria; Osorio, Sanchez, Victor Davila; Eduardo Vargas

CANADA VS CHILE PREDICTION

This one has the potential to be an absolute thriller. Jesse Marsch is known for his ultra aggressive high pressing style of football that is vertical and could well be ideally suited to the likes of Alphonso Davies and Liam Millar on the flanks. Chile have not quite hit the attacking heights expected of them in this tournament but were putting in some good early performances under Ricardo Gareca and with Chile needing a win to leapfrog Canada, both teams scoring and a fun game for the neutral seems a good bet.
