THE TEAM NEWS
ARGENTINA
- Argentina completed their superb group campaign by ending with a big win over Bolivia in their final contest as they ensured they finished top of Group A with an unbeaten record of three wins and a draw from their four games.
- A double from Lionel Messi was the key to success for the Argentinians while Alejandro Dario and Lautaro Martinez also chipped in with a goal apiece in the comfortable 4-1 success.
- Lionel Scaloni has plenty of options at his disposal and he could be boosted further with Cristian Romero and Angel Di Maria both expected to be fit after sitting out the clash with Bolivia.
ECUADOR
- Ecuador secured an important point from their final group game with Brazil with that being enough to book their spot in the quarter-finals of the Copa America but they will need to greatly improve if they are to topple Argentina.
- It is now three successive draws for the Ecuadorians after holding the Group B winners but having failed to win any of their games in the competition so far, they have it all to do in this clash.
- Substitute Angel Mena’s leveller was enough to earn a point against the Brazilians and he will hope he has done enough to earn a start here, especially as there are doubts surrounding Moises Caicedo, the man he replaced early in that contest.
THE PREDICTION
These two teams come into this last eight clash in very contrasting
form and it could be telling come the final whistle. Argentina went
through the group stage unbeaten with their last three games ending in
victory. Ecuador on the other hand were able to advance without
collecting a single win but they did at least avoid defeat in their
final three games which included an eye-catching point against Brazil.
However, the inability to win a game is problematic and Argentina’s
class should tell in this clash.
