THE PREDICTION

A comfortable 0-3 triumph for Mexico over Guatemala leaves them in a strong position heading into the final round of matches in Group A after being held to a draw by Trinidad and Tobago in their first game. Victory here against El Salvador would see Mexico leapfrog them in the table and enter the knockout stage as Group A winners. However, that won’t be easy against a side who currently boasts a perfect record of two wins from two games with defence that is yet to have conceded a goal in the tournament. Whilst a draw would be enough to send Mexico through, a substantial defeat could see them knocked out and therefore they aren’t expected to commit large numbers of bodies forward and risk being hit on the counter attack by this El Salvador side. A cagey encounter is therefore anticipated, with El Salvador knowing that a draw will see them top the group and goals may prove hard to come for both countries should they each adopt a cautious playstyle here. Whilst it would be no surprise to see this one end in a draw, the smart move would be to back under 2.5 goals scored over 90 minutes.
