THE PREDICTION

Last season, Royale Union Saint-Gilloise surprised everybody by finishing at the top-of-the-table at the end of the regular season before losing in the Championship round playoffs to eventual title winners Club Brugge. Union SG, as an affiliate club of Brighton, benefit from good scouting and off-field management but suffer from losing key players, such as Deniz Undav and Kaoru Mitoma, to their sister-club. They also lost their manager, Felice Mazzu, to Brussels rivals Anderlecht over the summer. However, despite that and a slow start, they have now enjoyed five successive Jupiler Pro League matches, scoring 15 goals in the process. They now face a Club Brugge side that, under the management of Carl Hoefkens, have been exceptional in the group stages of the UEFA Champions League so far this season as qualification to the Last 16 looks likely. They have been less impressive domestically but their 3-0 win over Sint-Truiden in midweek means they sit just above their upcoming opponents on goal difference in the top four ahead of this weekend’s round of fixtures. This is an even contest between two strong sides that have scored a combined total of 53 goals in 13 games. Both teams scoring seems likely.
