THE LOWDOWN
GENK
For much of last season Genk sat at the top-of-the-table and it seemed likely they would cruise to the Belgian title. However, in the calendar year of 2023, they have been extremely underwhelming and actually drifted to third place in the end, missing out on the title on the final day of the Championship round playoffs at the end of the season.
Still under the management of Wouter Vrancken, Genk have started this season slowly, too, being knocked out of both the UEFA Champions League and the UEFA Europa League. They did share a 2-2 draw with Fiorentina in midweek to continue a slight upturn in their form after defeating Royale Union Saint-Gilloise by two goals to nil last weekend.
SINT-TRUIDEN
Sint-Truiden finished just outside of the top eight and the UEFA Europa Conference League playoff places last season and will be hoping to build upon that mid-table finish this time around. They will be a little concerned by the reduction in size of the Belgian Jupiler Pro League from 18 to 16 teams, congesting the space in the bottom-half of the table.
They begin this weekend’s round of fixtures sitting firmly in the middle-of-the-table with three victories, two draws and two defeats in their opening seven matches of the 2023/24 campaign. Their most recent outing was a much-needed 2-0 defeat of Steven Defour’s Mechelen at the weekend, following the international break.

THE PREDICTION
About a month or so ago this one would’ve been viewed as a bit of a close encounter but we are back, or at least nearing, the form of the teams from around 12 months ago. The home team are beginning to show improvements in their performances and they take on a Sint-Truiden side that will be fortunate to cope with their movement going forward. Especially with their home advantage, a Genk victory is the expected outcome for this one.
TIP: GENK TO WIN
