TOGO PREVIEW: MANAGER-LESS TOGO

Ahead of the start of their 2025 CAF Africa Cup of Nations qualifying campaign, the Togolese national side have lost their manager, Paulo Duarte, with the Portuguese coach taking charge of Saudi Pro League side Al Okhdoud.

With an interim coach at the helm, Togo begin their campaign on the back of a 1-0 defeat away from home to the Democratic Republic of Congo in June. That loss ended what was a nine-match unbeaten run of form.

LIBERIA PREVIEW: THE LONE STARS

Under the management of former Malawi boss Mario Marinica, the Liberian national team are currently ranked 142nd in the world according to FIFA. They have been improving and come into this one on the back of their own steady form.

In their most recent outing, Liberia edged past Sao Tome e Principe by a goal to nil away from home over the summer. That result means they are unbeaten in all four matches that they have played in the calendar year of 2024.

TOGO TEAM NEWS: THE UNKNOWN

With the departure of Paulo Duarte, it is not clear as to how Togo will line-up as they face Liberia. Key attacker Ihlas Bebou is an injury doubt with Mansour Ouru-Tagba out suspended.

PREDICTED XI (3-4-1-2): Ouro-Gneni; Romao, Djene, Agbozo; Narey, Dermane, Aholou, Aziangbe; Tchakei; Denkey, Bebou

UNAVAILABLE: Ouro-Tagba (Suspended)

QUESTIONABLE: Bebou (Injured)

LIBERIA TEAM NEWS: FULLY FIT AND AVAILABLE

The Liberians have a fully fit and available squad for this opener against Togo with the standout key name being their captain, Slavia Prague midfielder Oscar.

PREDICTED XI (4-4-2): Koulibaly; Tarnue, Dweh, Kamara, Teclar; Kumeh, Dorley, Sangare, Kenneh; Sheriff, Sackor

TOGO VS LIBERIA PREDICTION

Togo are a defensive side, or at least were with Paulo Duarte, so it remains unlikely that they will now become on the front foot and more progressive. They could field a potent, in relative terms, attack of Kevin Denkey and Ihlas Bebou, though. Liberia have been solid this year but remain generally weak. The likelihood is that this is a low-scoring encounter but Togo do remain the slight favourites to edge three points.
