The home team come into this on the back of a 1-1 draw with Niger in the opening match of their Africa Cup of Nations qualifying campaign at the weekend. Tanzania have won just one of their last six matches. They now come up against an Algerian side that, under the management of Djamel Belmadi, have had a horrible start to 2022. They were on a long unbeaten run, winning the 2021 FIFA Arab Cup and being favourites to defend their AFCON title in January. However, they went out in the group stages before being beaten in 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifying in the 124th minute against Cameroon. Algeria did win their opening AFCON qualifier the other day, though, and they will come into this one as favourites.
