THE PREDICTION
African champions Senegal begin the defence of their Africa Cup of Nations title with a very similar squad to the one that triumphed in early 2022. Aliou Cisse’s men remain an extremely strong side but, by virtue of that similarity, they are an ageing side this time around. They face a Gambian side that come into this one on the back of a 2-0 loss to Ivory Coast in their most recent outing in mid-November in qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. Senegal will be the firm favourites for this one but, much like their run to the trophy a couple of years ago, it is not expected to be a thriller for the neutral.
