One of the dominant forces of African football and CAF Africa Cup of Nations football, Egypt begin their 2025 qualification campaign with a game against a Cape Verde side that have been improving in the last decade.

EGYPT PREVIEW: THE KINGS OF AFRICA
The seven-time African champions, which remains the best record, have endured an inconsistent time of since they last won the tournament in 2010 – which was their third successive CAF Africa Cup of Nations title.
After failing to qualify for the competition in 2012, 2013 and 2015; Egypt have reached two finals in the last four tournaments, finishing as runners’ up on both occasions, but also being knocked out in the Round of 16 in the other two.
CABO VERDE PREVIEW: BACK TO THE MAINLAND
In 2013, Cape Verde qualified for their first ever CAF Africa Cup of Nations and they have now played at four of their last six tournaments with probably their best performance coming at the 2023 event, albeit it was the second time they have reached the quarter-finals.
They come into this one on the back of a slender 1-0 defeat of Libya in 2026 FIFA World Cup qualification in mid-June but that followed on from being hammered by four goals to one by Cameroon.

Egypt captain Mohamed Salah has had an excellent start to the season in the Premier League with Liverpool and he remains the focal point for the Pharaohs ahead of this one.

EGYPT VS CABO VERDE PREDICTION
Earlier this year, Cabo Verde did finish above Egypt in the group stages of the 2023 CAF Africa Cup of Nations so they will still have confidence as they travel to the north of Africa with quite a few impressive attacking options. Egypt have rarely been an attacking side but with the current form of Mohamed Salah they will be favoured to beat anyone on the continent, albeit they may well be susceptible at the back here.
