THE TEAM NEWS

BURKINA FASO

Hubert Velud has a fully fit and available squad for their opening encounter against Mauritania so, with the likelihood that he sticks with a 4-4-2 system, the biggest talking point will be who gets the nod up-front as the likes of Bertrand Traore, Mamady Bangre, Abdoul Tapsoba and Djibril Ouattara fight for a spot up-front.

PREDICTED XI (4-4-2): Koffi; Kabore, Dayo, E.Tapsoba, Yago; Bande, Sangare, Guira, Da.Ouattara; Traore, Konate

MAURITANIA

Mauritania and Amir Abdou’s biggest injury issue ahead of the Africa Cup of Nations was that second-choice goalkeeper, Babacar Diop, was ruled out of the tournament and replaced in the squad by M’Backe N’Diaye.

PREDICTED XI (4-2-3-1): Niasse; Dellahi Yahi, N’Diaye, L.Ba, Abeid; Gassama, E.Ba; Thiam, Koita, Kamara; Tanjy

THE PREDICTION

A couple of years ago, Burkina Faso reached the semi-finals of the Africa Cup of Nations before being beaten by eventual winners Senegal in the final four. The Stallions have arguably improved in terms of their personnel since then and will hope to go deep into the competition, once again. They face a Mauritania side that held Tunisia to a goalless draw in a friendly last weekend and, whilst a respectable result, have now scored just one goal in their last four matches and a low-scoring Burkinabe victory is to be expected for this one.

TIP: BURKINA FASO TO WIN TO NIL
