THE PREDICTION

Algeria have been bizarre in recent years. They were one of the standout teams in world football in late 2021 before being knocked out of the groups of this competition in 2022 and then failing to qualify for the FIFA World Cup. Djamel Belmadi remained and they regrouped before heading into this tournament on the back of excellent form but they were then held to a 1-1 draw by Angola. Burkina Faso have perhaps underperformed their potential as a side in the last 12 months and they required a 96th minute winning penalty from Bertrand Traore to edge past Mauritania the other day. Algeria are under serious pressure for this one and there could be a fair bit of tension so a low-scoring affair, regardless of the match result, appears very likely.
