In recent years, Iraq have been one of the improving sides in the Asian confederation as they move from being middling in Asia towards the top seven or eight sides, especially with AFC Wimbledon striker Ali Al Hamadi up-front. They now take on a relatively star-studded Japanese squad that, under the management of Hajime Moriyasu, were forced to come from behind to defeat Vietnam by four goals to two.
