THE LOWDOWN
ENGLAND
- Whilst England may have begun their group stage campaign with three points, boss Sarina Wiegman can’t have been happy with what her side offered against Haiti, a retaken Georgia Stanway penalty being all that separated the two teams with goalkeeper Mary Earps called upon to keep the Lionesses’ lead intact.
- Naturally such a performance and the small margin of victory will likely lead to questions over whether Wiegman should change the team, with both Lauren James and Rachel Daly two players who could give the European champions fresh impetus going forward.
DENMARK
- Denmark come into this crunch encounter at the top of Group D with momentum in their favour following a late winner against China in Perth, a huge result for them in their bid for knockout qualification.
- Substitute Amalie Vangsgaard scored the winning goal, her first for the national team and made a strong case for a starting spot against England, which could lead to Janni Thomsen making way.

THE KEY STATS
- England have won the last three matches between these two nations; all were friendly matches. Denmark won their last competitive encounter which was a 2-1 victory in the group stage at the UEFA Women’s European Championship in 2005.
- England have won their last six FIFA Women’s World Cup group matches.
- England have kept five clean sheets in their last seven FIFA Women's World Cup matches.
- England have scored in their last 14 matches at the finals, which is just one behind the record for most successive games with a goal which is held by Norway (1991-1999).
- England have only lost two of their previous 16 FIFA Women’s World Cup group stage matches (W10 D3).
- Victory for Denmark would see them start a FIFA Women’s World Cup final competition with two successive wins for the first time.
- Nine of Denmark's last ten goals in the FIFA Women's World Cup have been scored in the second half.
- Denmark have kept two clean sheets in their last three FIFA Women’s World Cup matches. They only kept two clean sheets in their previous 12 matches.
- England are only the third European team that Denmark have faced in FIFA Women’s World Cup history after Norway (twice) and Germany (once). Denmark lost each of those fixtures, so a win here would be their first against European opposition in the competition.
THE PREDICTION
Sarina Wiegman will no doubt demand a significant improvement from her players compared to the last game and England are going to need it if they are to come out on top against a strong-looking Denmark. When taking into account the standards set by England, not to mention the squad they possess, it’s hard not to see them bouncing back with a better all-round showing, especially from an offensive standpoint. Denmark are coming off the back of a morale-boosting clean sheet and will make life hard for the England attack, but it would be a surprise if the Euro 2022 winners don’t eventually break through the Danish backline. Back England to narrowly get the better of Lars Sondergaard’s side and firmly establish themselves at the top of the group.
TIP: ENGLAND TO WIN
