THE LOWDOWN

COLOMBIA

  • Despite defeat at the hands of Morocco in their final group game, Colombia’s place in the knockout stage is secure having already accrued six points from their opening two matches, beating South Korea and most notably, European giants Germany.
  • The most pleasing aspect of their clash vs Morocco was defender Jorelyn Carabali being able to play despite having been stretched off the pitch late on against Germany with a head injury, the centre-back being a crucial cog in a well-oiled Colombian backline.

JAMAICA

  • Jamaica’s formidable defence continues to do them proud and despite going into the final round of group fixtures as the outsiders to qualify, they managed to shut out Brazil, drawing 0-0 and gaining the point needed to advance.
  • Only Norway and South Africa qualified through to the Round of 16 with a lower total than Jamaica’s five points, but for the Reggae Girlz to get through a group which included both France and Brazil deserves an enormous amount of credit.

  • In topping their group, Colombia became just the second South American team to win a group in FIFA Women's World Cup history after Brazil.
  • Colombia’s record against CONCACAF teams in the FIFA Women’s World Cup is W0 D1 L2.
  • Jamaica have qualified for the knockout stage of the FIFA Women's World Cup for the first time, becoming the third team from Concacaf to achieve that in the history of the competition after USA and Canada.
  • Jamaica are one of three teams that did not concede a single goal in the group stage of the FIFA Women's World Cup 2023 along with Switzerland and Japan.
  • Jamaica are only the second team that has qualified for the FIFA Women’s World Cup knockout rounds having scored just one goal in the group stage following China PR in 2019.

THE PREDICTION

Defence is expected to rule the roost over the course of this Round of 16 encounter. Between them, Colombia and Jamaica have conceded just two goals over the course of the World Cup so far, the former scoring four goals and the latter only one. When taking into account the magnitude of this contest, neither team are likely to initially deploy ultra-attacking styles of play that could see them caught out at the other end of the pitch, so back under 2.5 goals scored between the two sides.

TIP: UNDER 2.5 GOALS
